Friends in High Places
Monday, July 2nd, 2007I don’t think Scooter Libby should have been prosecuted for what amounted to having a bad memory.
To my knowledge, this is the first time Bush has commuted a sentence in his six-plus years in office. Guess it’s just a coincidence that the only person ever to get an unfairly “harsh” sentence in that time also happens to be the former chief of staff for the vice president, huh?
Funny how that works.
Here’s a list of people more deserving of pardons or clemency.
MORE: In this discussion at the Volokh Conspiracy, many commenters have pointed out that the sentence President Bush feels is unfair is within the federal sentencing guidelines, the same guidelines the Bush administration just defended before the Supreme Court (and won).
But still. I’m sure that Scooter Libby is the only person in the entire federal courts system over the last six years to receive an unfairly harsh sentence.
This just reeks. All around.
