Bush Picks Miers for TSC

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

President Bush has nominated confidante, fellow Texan and virtual unknown Harriet Miers to replace outgoing Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. She’s had a varied career, doing everything from heading a law firm to chairing Texas’s state lottery commission and serving a term as a city councilor in Dallas. She’s now head White House counsel, having replaced cock-blocking AG Alberto Gonzales. One thing she’s never been (like many others, including late Chief Justice Rehnquist) is a judge.

According to this White House Q&A Miers is in favor of No Child Left Behind and daylight-savings time. White House bio here.

Update: In the 1980s it seems pretty clear Miers was a Democratic Party supporter, if not a Democrat in name.
