Your daily reminder that sports journalism is rife with idiots, someone named Peter Keating on ESPN’s site asking “Can John McCain Save Sports.” Not that John McCain isn’t one of our most valuable politicians. I long ago realized that, if too pressed for time to follow an issue closely, simply finding out where John McCain stood on it and taking the opposite position would get you far more hits than misses. Campaign Finance Reform? Check. Ultimate Fighting? Check. That’s just the beginning. If the man had no power to ruin people’s lives and livelihoods his existence would be an unmixed boon.
