Nice words. Very true. What the hell do they have to do with this situation?

In the middle of a speech, which, for non-politcians, isn’t an exercise in hyper analyzing each word as spoken, she went off on one word which most mature minds don’t even recognize as an actual profanity anymore.

“This matter is confidential and we cannot publicly say anything about it.”

That’s spokeshole talk for “We’re in a deep shit pit and are still trying to make something up to climb out.” Honestly, how can you have come to a site like this without decoding that sort of crap long ago.

This whole thing sounds a little strange. But it seems that superintendent Dr. Rick Martin said in a statement, “This matter is confidential and we cannot publicly say anything about it.” So, until we hear the school’s side of the story, there may have been more to it than what has been expressed so far.

What that principal is doing is illegal in most states IIRC. It’s called academic double jeopardy. You’re not allowed to withhold credit already earned as a disiplinary measure.

Oh, and to Patrick regarding high school reading material: passing around a copy of Stranger in a Strange Land to the other members of the misfit’s circle remains one of the high points of high school to me. Unfortunately, I didn’t discover RAWilson until college (although I would probably have been burned alive if I had been discovered with a copy of Illuminatus!).

God knows the stuff I read in high school (Rand, Heinlein, Tolkien, Lovecraft, Robert Anton Wilson, etc.) was awful.
