Justice for Chavis Carter

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

A breaking story this week from Jonesboro, Arkansas, concerns the death of 21 year old Chavis Carter, a black man who was shot to death while handcuffed in the back seat of a Jonesboro Police Department squad car. Carter had been stopped while driving last Saturday night and a search of Carter’s vehicle had allegedly turned up marijuana. The Jonesboro police say Carter committed suicide with a stolen .380 Cobra semi-automatic that somehow wasn’t found during the search or arrest of Chavis; Chavis’s family and supporters say that Chavis was murdered, and that the police are involved in covering up what appears to be a racially motivated crime. Here are stories from the Huffington Post, Charles Blow at the NYT, and KAIT8 News.

The family has put up a Facebook page “Justice for Chavis (ASAP) Carter“. I would also suggest that Arkansans who think that marijuana prohibition gives an already inequitable justice system an additional degree of inhumanity be aware of the final 9 days of the signature drive by Arkansans for Compassionate Care, who are seeking to put a medical marijuana bill to the November Arkansas ballot.

The police reports, as cited by the linked articles, report that Chavis still had his hands handcuffed behind his back when he supposedly shot himself in the right temple and that there were no holes in the vehicle as there would have been if someone else had shot him from outside.

In other words, the cops are not so much covering up the crime as saying “We murdered him, and we don’t care who knows about it because there’s nothing any of you can do.”

The subject stabbed himself 37 times in the back, rolled himself up in a carpet, and jumped into the river. It was clearly suicide.

Sadly this is the truth. The government thugs know they have plenty of people who lick their boots and put their word on par with God himself.

Well, there is a fairly famous video of a guy under arrest, in a police interrogation room, who pulls a full sized 1911 .45 out of his pants and shoots himself in the head. I can’t remember if he’s handcuffed or not, but he’d been searched about 4 times and nobody noticed it. I have no idea how you could fail to not notice a full sized 1911 in even a completely half-assed patdown, but more then one cop did. So it’s not completely and totally impossible, even if it does seem to be more then a tiny bit suspicious.

The cops have already changed their story twice… the local media is all over this one.

I have no idea how you could fail to notice it either, Kevin. But then, you and I aren’t cops.

Well, it’s possible. If he was trying to shoot the handcuffs off and was contorting his body to see the cuffs out of the corner of his eye he could have shot himself in the head. The burning smell then would have been from the singeing of his clothes and the car seat. Of course, stippling patterns and forensic evidence from the back of his shirt and the car seat would quickly allow this possibility to be ruled out or confirmed. So the options are either blatant murder or REALLY fucking stupid idiot.

How many times have you seen a person arrested handcuffed with their hands in the front of them? I will now make the observation that Houdini like flexibility would be required to acquire the weapon ,well hidden on your person as the LEO’s were unable to find it,then use the weapon to shoot ones self in the head while your hands are behind your back. Impossible? NO. Very highly unlikely Yes! So highly unlikely as to be eliminated from consideration. This is yet another example of LEO’s out of control, another reason to disband the police altogether.

As a lot of ppl at NYT point out, he was put in the car without handcuffs the first time and could have stowed the gun then. They also point out that the shooting might have been an accident self-inflicted wound.

The truth is probably figure-outable from the police audio recordings which we don’t have (and which may or may not remain hidden from us).

@8 If that’s based on police testimony, I give it all the credibility it deserves: None. Anything that comes out of a pig’s cock holster is a lie, they’re trained to do it.

“He reached into the back of his pants retrieved the gun,(very possible) even cuffed dropped gun on seat under him, while he was leaning forward and wriggling to get the gun in front of him and out from under him, to kick it under the seat with his head down in his lap the gun fired up through his legs into his temple”

That still does not explain the broken system that put him in the car to begin with, he was murdered by our society even if the police are innocent.
I believe forensics will prove my very possible and simple scenario.

Medical marijuana don’t mean shit! Either advocate re-legalizing everything or shut your wimpy mouth if you still call yourself free.
