It is by no means obvious (and certainly not universally agreed upon) that the titular character in “Candy’s Room” is a strumpet (or even a stripper).

For an obvious example of Springsteen writing about a strumpet, see “Reno.” (For an obvious example of him writing about a stripper, see “Dry Lightning”–or “Pilgrim in the Temple of Love,” if you can find it.)
