MPH, I think that’s right on. Her point (and mine) is that there’s nothing unique about the breast thing other than it being so common. Hip-to-waist ratio is another thing that’s been shown to draw men and to decrease with age. There is a special incentive for men to want younger women as women’s fertility fades with time (men’s does a little bit, but not as dramatically or as finally).

Why men love (big) tits.

I read an article written by an anthropologist (female, as it happens). Her theory went like this: we’re all (male and female) driven to mate with the newly mature (young adults). So we key on things that mean “young”. Blonde hair tends to darken as we age (I know mine went from light blond to brown as I passed puberty), so blondes are popular with the opposite gender. Large breasts sag with time, making it harder for big busted women to hide their age (so bras are intended to make women look younger). Younger mates tend to be more fertile, and more capable of raising the young to adulthood, which from an evolutionary standpoint, is what an organism’s goal is (having lots of kids that don’t reach breeding age means your genes don’t get perpetuated). So why do some men like small busted women? Women who’s breasts are small are just entering puberty, and so seem young.

Fifty million years of primate evolution with most of that time passed mating doggy-style. So of course men are attracted by female bottoms. Throw in a bipedal stance, though, and the alluring buttocks are no longer so prominently displayed. So buttock-y bulges on the female front, i.e., cheeks and breasts, get selected-in by evolution. And prominent lips, although delicacy forbids enlarging on that subject.

Proof? It’s not proof, but it’s interesting that bonobos, who are the only other primates with a semi-bipedal stance are also the only other primates whose females have prominent breasts.

#1 – I myself googled a number of koala pictures because the mouth looked Photoshopped to me as well, but it still looked pretty close to some other open-mouth pictures so I let it go.

#4 – Actually, that’s not a miss; that kind of thing is “dog bites man” from the sex worker activist POV. It is good that the media is starting to notice it, though; there have been a number of articles like that this year, which is cause for slight, guarded optimism.

#5 – Yes, I quoted Ley in the second of my two columns on it.

#9 – It would annoy me, but I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

A protected right to be ignorant of the nature…er… that has
to be one of the most awkward phrasings I’ve seen lately.
Remember, this is Palm Beach Koo Koo Land, the same
people that tried to sell us “Hanging Chads.”
A lot of the drug trade has to do with tricking people into unwittingly delivering or possessing drugs. In Florida, those
victims are now subject to prosecution.
(On the bright side, it does give me some juicy ideas about
planting drugs in Cops’ and Judges’ cars, mailboxes, and suitcases, and
anonymously calling 911)
