Leigh Stubbs, Tami Vance To Be Released From Prison

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

I just heard from the Mississippi Innocence Project that Leigh Stubbs and Tami Vance will soon be released from prison. This is fantastic news. They’ll be transferred to a local jail and will be able to post bond as soon as the judge signs an order vacating their convictions. Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood will then decide if he wants to try them again.

Stubbs was convicted based on more absurd testimony from Michael West, although in this case it was particularly nutty. He not only gave his “expert” opinion with respect to his usual bite mark quackery, but also in videography (enhance!), and some bizarre theory about the crime patterns of lesbians. (A male dentist in Hattiesburg, Mississippi would naturally be who’d I’d turn to for expertise on lesbian domestic violence.)

My Huffington Post article on the case here. Check here to watch the video of West actually using a dental mold of Stubbs’ teeth to create the bite mark that he’d later testify came from Stubbs on the night of the alleged crime.

Kudos to the Mississippi Innocence Project for their great work on this case. I’ll have more later.

I hope you rewrite the opening to the second paragraph:

Stubbs was convicted based on particularly absurd testimony from Michael West. West’s testimony was particularly absurd in this case.

If they are innocent men, why are they ‘pending’ release from prison. Why the paperwork? Why the administrivia? They should immediately be freed or the civilized among us should tear down the prison walls to get them out. Afterall, SWAT teams operate with the exact same principal in reverse…

In Michael West’s case, the absurdity bears repeating.

Aaron, I agree. They should be set free immediately, the state can process the paper work and anything else on their own time.

The wheels of justice are so rusted. This is a welcomed surprise!

Will someone finally press charges against this nasty, delusional man? There has to be something, some ethics violation, some contempt charge that they can pin on him. Didn’t the defense in the Brooks case try to press charges back in 2008?

Hopefully this time around he’s been fully and completely discredited.

Aaron, they are not innocent MEN. Try reading the article again. Especially the part about Michael West being an expert on Lesbians.

This may be the only blog on the internet not talking about the Obamacare decision.

I’ve now seen a couple of references (without explanation) on ACA posts that the ruling will make it more difficult for the federal government to prosecute the War on Drugs. Anyone know if that is indeed true and what the basis for that assertion is?

I figure if anyone can explain it, it’ll be someone here.
