Earl Scruggs, RIP
Thursday, March 29th, 2012The last of the first great bluegrass men has died. I’m particularly fond of bluegrass gospel, so here’s one from the Flat and Scruggs show.
And here’s one better demonstrating Scruggs’ mastery of the banjo:

Goodness mighty fine indeed on 1st video, who was pedal steel player?
Porter Waggoner doesn’t look right without a nudie suit.
RIP Earl.
I done luvs me some banjo twanging.
RIP
We used to have an old dude in the neighborhood who played the banjo. But he didn’t play nothing like that!
I remember hearing an interview of Jerry Garcia, where he said he learned banjo finger rolls by playing Earl Scruggs LPs at the 16 rpm setting, which is about half actual speed and an octave lower.
Be at peace, Earl, and thanks for the jams.
Ralph Stanley is still alive.
