Reason’s Lucy Steigerwald visits the annual confab of conservative activists. It’s a great video. It will also make you reach for a drink.

Is the entire video supposed to be the summary comment? If not, the link isn’t working, at least not for me.

To summarize – there are idiots on every side of every issue…

Wow. I mean I had an idea of what to expect, but, wow. Michael Moore could not have made the cons look more obnoxious, and O’Reilly could not have made the occupiers look more obnoxious. Also I know its stereotyping, but as a born and bred southerner I tend to associate republicans with a certain traditional masculine ethos. Because that is what most of the people I know who are hardcore republicans are like. Not bad people by any means (although their stances on gay rights for instance could certainly be more evolved) but more, old school tough. The people in this video looked downright dainty.

With everything becoming a national issue, it means we need to go up against tens of millions of people like these instead of maybe a measly couple hundred thousand locally. Videos like this make the best possible case for smaller, limited, and more localized government.

I think that the take-away from this video is that it’s a miracle that the human race has survived this long given the sheer number of vile and unthinking people out there.

The Libertarian Party seems less and less goofy every day (Except here in Montana).

    Definitely time for a drink.

I liked the guy who was refreshingly honest about Romney – “I like him because he’s the only hope, and is rich and has infrastructure.”

WTF does “has infrastructure” mean. Is it some obscure virility reference? Or is this a new dog whistle that I have to add to my list?

I swear, if you’re neither a religious nut nor a socialist, then you’re just outta luck when it comes to the politics in this country.

‘I got friends who are former homosexuals.’

Geez, if you’re wanting to get a serious repub gay sex kink on, this is the place to be.

The underlying theme is that even the cream of GOP supporters, which CPAC is purportedly a gathering of, does not rely on reason and principle to guide their political decisions. Everyone needs to work on their neighbors.
