Prague. I had my first taste of real Absinthe at this comic book-themed bar. Did the whole ritual with the fire and the sugar cube. It was disgusting.

The Czechs know how to mix their pleasures, then?
Yeah, absinthe is only good in a sazerac. It actually does not taste good on its own.
Wormwood!
Going back to Coors light, eh?
Czech absinthe is terrible for the most part. Also the whole lighting the sugar cube of fire is pointless and adds nothing to a good absinthe. Try St. George it’s an absinthe produced in the states, do 3 to 4 parts water to 1 part absinthe. Sugar is optional depending on personal preference for sweetness. Of course if you dont enjoy black licorice you probably wont ever like absinthe.
Actually, Czech absinthe is pure swill, I hope it was a bottle from France or Spain. Also, the fire thing is baloney, just for spectacle, but the sugar part is legit.
Which bar is this? Enquiring minds (and future Czech travelers) want to know!
The fire ritual is as authentic as many czech absinthes: not.
The proper way is shown here: Slowly dilute with (cold) water. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tWyDxiOz70
Oooh, Kája Saudek! His drawings were big part of my introduction to comics, when I was a little boy. Not that there was much of a competition then, but he opened a lot of doors to me.
Bar seems to be Batalion Café & Music Bar, at least according to Google.
To chime in with those above: the “Czech ritual” is a gross debasement of what a good absinthe is all about. Please give it a try with a -good- ab presented properly. Much, much information at wormwoodsociety.org.
