My friend Shotgun went to Galveston County Jail a few years ago for getting in a fight in a bar. A few weeks later I was called to come over and pick up his things since he had mysteriously died in custody. Oh yea, and they sent his body out to be cremated so there was never any investigation. I figured that he must have gotten into it with staff and they overdid it.

A lot of people die in custody in America.

    picachu: sorry about your friend

Radley: I’d like to know what the Daily Mail says back to you. I was about to leave them a nasty comment, but “comments are closed” on that story. Better yet, you should notify their competitors who would be happy to call them out for plagiarism.

It is true that many people die while in custody here in America.

    Three main reasons:

    1. Unclean/unsafe/unhealthy conditions in the jails which sicken and kill the inmates who are basically deprived of medical care the minute they enter custody. Not that jails don’t have medical facilities – they just don’t think the inmates deserve to be treated like people. Go figure.

    2. Other inmates kill them.

    3. Staff kills them.

I’m sure there are accidents, too. In fact, every time numbers 2 & 3 are the actual cause of death – it is ruled an “accident”.

    Off topic:
I’m always amazed that the quote from LE after a death is the same whether the jail was in NY or LA or Florida or anywhere. Like they are reading from a script the union prepared in advance and handed out to all cops. They have a script for everything, one for shooting little girls, one for shooting dogs, one for the officer who rapes the girls he pulls over, one for shooting a handcuffed suspect, etc. Why would these scripts be prepared in advance, do you think?

Florida Depatment Of Law Enforcement (FDLE) = The Fox guarding the henhouse.

    The Fox guarding the henhouse….

This is true regardless, when you expect a given profession to investigate itself as LE does…

    What do you expect?

its a bit like Congress holding ethics investigations of other Congress-critters…

How anyone can keep a straight face while saying “Police Internal Investigation”… is beyond me…

And anyone who actually thinks that police can investigate themselves is simply plain stupid….

    @Dante,

Further to your point (1), above, every time I donate blood, the questionnaire asks “Have you ever been in jail for more than 48 hours?”

If you answer yes, you can’t donate blood, because you’re an unacceptable HIV risk to the blood supply. Every time I read that question, a little bit of me dies. What an indictment of our jails.

If only there was a law or something that would give you some leverage when dealing with copyright violators in foreign countries…

The Daily Mail’s reporting of foreign attorneys statements have already got them into trouble once recently.

After the Amanda Knox verdict the paper, like others, mistakenly reported that she had been found guilty. Unlike other papers they had detailed quotes from the prosecuters welcoming the verdict.

“The Daily Mail” plagiarizing a blogger. That is so unheard of. Well, it is not like you are real media like them;-)

Who needs a law when you have drones?
