For me, the voices most evocative of the late sixties-- I was in 6th grade in 1969-- are those of Colin Blunstone of the Zombies and Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane. Note I don't say best, I say most evocative; Time Of The Season and Eskimo Blue Day both immediately transport me to 1969 with an incredible, so-real-I-can-taste-it rush of jumbled verge-of-adolescence emotions, of exuberance, curiousity, and rebellion.

The early seventies have a different vibe, really diffuse-- David Bowie, Carole King, John Prine, Robert Plant, Ray Davies, Sandy Denny, Elton John, James Taylor, Alice Cooper, Peter Wolf, Steve Goodman, David Johansen, Joni Mitchell, Iggy Pop...junior high for me was all about exploring the music and the weed.

Culture is in the soul of the individual. To criticize one's choices of music, art etc. is the same as criticizing their prefererred colour, food, garment etc. Small-minded people do so all the time. For each of us, our cultural memories are individual and different. Mine do not include Sly, James Brown and several other second rate singers and musicians, but do include Guess Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival and many others. Forest Gump was a sound extravaganza. My cultural memories are as valid for me as yours are for you.
