I find all the definitions lacking compared to actual practice.
A troll is anyone someone else disagrees with, and often the troll tells the truth, and gets banned or kicked for doing so, because the prevailing lie is the adopted theme to be supported at all costs.

FTP, trolling isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it does grind some people down, and keeping it from overwhelming venues sucks up a lot of attention.

I always assumed that the term “troll” came from the fishing term, since in the early days of online intercommunication it meant to toss out a provocative comment in the hope of drawing a response or creating an argument, like a fisherman trolls by trailing bait in the water. I don’t think it has anything to do with the mythical beasts. Unless you’re Ashley.

The report characterizes Ashley Carey as a “21 year old entertainer.” So she’s a public figure of sorts. Just as comedians get heckled, people who post Youtube videos get nasty comments. Sure, it might be slightly assholish behavior, but it’s hardly the rank evil it’s portrayed as here.
