Heard this band for the first time in Nashville last week. The rich, smoky, throwback voice belongs to Katie Robertson. The band is called Stagolee.

    Stagolee? Is that a nod to Nick Cave and Stagger Lee? Incidentally, Stagger Lee is a pretty twisted song.

    You’ve got some amazing local music. My department seems to have some ties with Vanderbilt. I’ve always harbored a hope that I get a job there after I finish grad school. A lifetime in Nashville doesn’t sound too bad.

    Dale Boley, just fyi, “Stagger Lee” has a far richer history than some Nick Cave cover.

    I’ve never heard of this singer or band, but after listening to this song and another on their website, I’m sold. Damn good stuff. Thanks for the heads-up, Radley.
