(A major event that marked the beginning of the fall of the Iron Curtain occurred on August 19, 1989, when more than 600 East Germans on the Hungarian border fled into Austria. Hungarian border guards had threatened to shoot anyone crossing the border, but when the time came, they did not intervene and allowed the people to cross.)
Reminds me of my recent trip through Iowa in that Iowa is completely the opposite of this. But I did get to fly with Newt, meet Mitt for the tenth time (we used to shuttle to NYC from Boston often…coincidence), and I befriended a plain-looking dog that I named Pawlenty.
Does everyone get that Pawlenty joke, because it is quite good. Let me explain. You see Tim Pawlenty is a candidate for President (or was), but he isn’t well known. So, here’s the funny part, I mistook a dog for him…and the turn…dogs have paws and Tim’s last name is “PAW”lenty.
Now, the next kicker is that the dog got more votes in Iowa than Tim Pawlenty.
This reminds me of years ago meeting George Stephanopoulos in Nashua NH (I live in NH). I was walking on the sidewalk down Main Street and a large network TV bus was parked. The door opened and George came walking down the stairs and onto the sidewalk. I got his attention and what do you think I yelled to him?
That’s right, ninjas. “Hey, there’s George steppin’ off a bus!” Nailed it.
