Oddly, no one bothered to notify his attorneys before releasing him. But he’s now home with his family.

Huh? Why is this odd? What role do his attorneys have in the literal act of letting him out of prison?

I hope that you recognize the impact that you had in bringing this about. Your tenacious writing about this case and OUTSTANDING investigative reporting kept Maye’s case on the radar. You sir, are a credit to your profession. MUCH, MUCH kudos to you Mr. Balko.

Well, the worthless cheerleading here only got me to donate $50 to Cory Maye. That’s probably completely worthless, then. You understand that there’s a difference between a journalist and an advocate, yes? Too many people pose as “journalists” today who are only advocates. Radley seems to be the opposite. He’s a journalist first, and the good that comes from it is more organic.

And as many others have noted previously — congratulations, Radley. Your work in this case got a man off death row and ultimately helped him win his freedom. That’s more than most of us will achieve in a lifetime.

While I consider your answer possible, I think that one could also say “Never attribute to malice what is adequately explained by stupidity”
