When I started in the newspaper business 30 years ago, I spent countless hours in darkrooms developing Tri-X and printing the resulting pictures.

My first and only opportunity to see actual pros at work in a darkroom happened back around 1967 or so when a guy who worked at the Milwaukee Journal allowed me to watch him print pictures. Presumably they had a darkroom staff, but in this case the guy who was doing the printing was also the photographer. Very fun to watch and it left a lasting impression on me. I have been doing it myself ever since.

You just watch. Film is going to make a major comeback. I think digital is just a passing fad along with cell phones and the internet. ;-)

That second photo is fantastic. I love the contrast and the shallow depth of field that really makes Lexy stand out.

Excellent pictures, Dave. As a fellow photographer, I know how tough it can be to get the white coat of an animal to look good in photos. I gave up my enlarger and chemicals years ago, but I’m glad there are still some folks out there making prints the old-fashioned way. When I started in the newspaper business 30 years ago, I spent countless hours in darkrooms developing Tri-X and printing the resulting pictures. I probably smelled like D-76 and fixer far more often than I realized. :-)
