Hello there, I’m Alyona Minkovski

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

I’d like to first start off by thanking Radley for allowing me to blog here. I’m an avid fan of his work, and a first time blogger, so I couldn’t think of a better place to start.

For those of you who don’t know me, I host a political commentary show 5 days a week at RT (Russia Today) called…..The Alyona Show. If you care to get a taste, you can check it out here.  Or follow me on twitter.

There are those in this world who can’t look past the name and funding of where I work and assume that I am a Russian propagandist who gets my scripts straight from the Kremlin, only after I finish our obligatory morning session of worshiping a bare chested picture of Putin.  None of which is true. Personally I think Ahmadinejad is way hotter(yes, I am kidding).

In reality, I was born in Moscow, raised in the US since I was 4 and consider myself an American. I dedicate my days to finding the stories I think the mainstream media doesn’t cover,  misconstrues, or flat out lies about.

I’ll probably be writing about civil liberties, torture, doing some media commentary and calling for an end to all of our wars that are doing more damage than good. You know, the fun stuff.

Anyway, didn’t mean to make this so serious, just wanted to say hello, I promise.

I look forward to blogging here and to meeting all of you. Hope you enjoy!

Holy Cow. Alonya. I watch you most every night.
The opportunity to comment on Alonya’s Guest Blog.
Better than cheesecake, or caviar, even better than meeting Pat Sajak in person.
Like anything could be cooler than Alonya Guest blogging.
Oh my God I’m going mental.
How about a show on TSA and how their bringing even grown ups to tears
with their assembly-line molestations and lack of respect for paying customers.
    In this case Miss USA.

RT is amazing and so are you! I’m so glad Radley brought on on board during his absence. Feel free to post any pics of yourself that you feel like you wouldn’t want to share with other blogs because we are very discreet here.

P.S. Loved your Glenn Beck impression.

    Oops, “Alyona.”
    Going mental, I must say!

    Welcome Alyona. :-)

The only person on the news who is cooler is Brian Williams and that’s only because you don’t yet have the stature to go on the Daily Show and make fun of yourself.

Getting paid by the Kremlin? That makes no sense. Given the number of Reason folks you have on, you MUST be paid by the Koch Brothers, right?

Please don’t tell me Balloon Juice and The Exiled have been lying to me.

“Feel free to post any pics of yourself that you feel like you wouldn’t want to share with other blogs because we are very discreet here.”

    What he said. :)

Seriously, though, welcome aboard. Thanks for letting weirdos like Balko on the air and talk about issues that our mainstream media ignores.

Have you done anything on asset forfeiture? It’s the sort of thing that I think normal people don’t really know about, but tend to get shocked and angry about the more they learn.

RT is surprisingly libertarian, quite refreshing. I subscribe to their YouTube channel. Are most of RT’s staff of the freedom-loving bent or is their pro-little-guy stance a top-down decision from the folks in charge?

I catch segments of your show when Reason.TV posts them to their podcast. Welcome.

Welcome Alyona. We look forward to reading your work.

Admittedly, I’ve only watched your show when you’ve had Radley (or other Reason guests) on. But I like what I’ve seen. Welcome aboard.

Maybe the Kremlin is secretly paid by the Koch Brothers, which makes it all make sense.

    Welcome Alyona.

See some of your reports now and again, they seem to be well done. Keep you the good work and it’s nice to see a lady around here.

I’ll probably be writing about civil liberties, torture, doing some media commentary…

So, I take it you’ll be posting Celine Dion videos on Five Star Fridays?

Now that I’ve seen Libby and Alyona, I’m giving serious thought to becoming a prominent libertarian blogger :D

RT has been suprisingly libetarian on civil liberties, fiscal/economic issues, and foreign policy. Adam Kokesh has even got his own show now.

Welcome to TheAgitator, Alyona, and keep up the good work at RT!

I’ve seen some clips, and don’t think you’re a Russian propagandist. But I am curious as to why the Russian government funds TV programming that is often more pro-liberty than many American based media companies.

    Any thoughts?

The Johnny Appleseed of Crack “But I am curious as to why the Russian government funds TV programming that is often more pro-liberty than many American based media companies.

Well if you saw the US government as a competitor what message do you think would undermine them? The message of liberty, which is pretty much the opposite of what the US government advocates.

  19. #19 |  The Johnny Appleseed Of Crack |

    JS,
Yeah, that kind of makes sense. But it seems like promoting liberty would undermine Russia more than the U.S.

  20. #20 |  JS |

yea, I guess it undermines most things governments do. I don’t know, maybe someone in the Russian goverment is a libertarian or just likes totally hot Russian American girls named Alyona.

Welcome, Alyona. I remember you from Gravelly Point, VA (Restore the Constitution Open Carry rally 4-19-2010).

This is exactly what I would expect a Russian propogandist to say.

I would hardly call her views and editorial segments a product of Russian propaganda I’ve been studying modern politics for years and know many of the issues she has covered very well. I understand American culture as well as anyone, She is simply stating what is of obvious concern to anyone with their eyes open. News that has been lacking in our political talking points and mainstream media coverage decades. The issues that anyone that I know under 40 and grew in this country care about. They are in dismay at the absurd fools that are running things now and they would probably watch the news if it was worth watching. They realize that they have been lied to and filled with false promises since birth and that our current path is unsustainable and holds a bleak economic and environmental future. God bless you Alyona for keeping it real and not getting your programming from the government and multinational corporations . Over 70% of the mainstream news is pre programed government propaganda and we can never have too many beautiful well spoken young women offering another perspective.

    Hi Alyona!
Thank you for blogging here! I am a big fan of your show.

I just returned to the SF Bay Area from Netroots Nation ’11. I think you would be a wonderful speaker (or attendee or panelist) at Netroots Nation. The 2011 version just ended, but 2012 will be in Providence.

Thom Hartmann was at NN last weekend in Minneapolis. Lots of radio talkers do their shows from NN. I thought I’d plant the seed!

P.S. Your mother was an amazing skater. I’m a fan of both of you!
