The average for an American in the US is 46,000. So they do better than your average Joe.

And I’m tired of hearing about teachers not making any money. As stated above, they make serious money through tenure. Same for cops. I don’t know how this myth continues that gov’t employees don’t make any money.

Find me a billion dollar company that doesn’t receive targeted tax breaks or subsidies. But we can all get angry at a few janitors who managed to make a good living in NYC (irrespective of the allegations of misconduct). Who knows, maybe they were just smarter than the rest of us 22 years ago when we passed on the opportunity to take the job.

you beat me to it- anyone who doesn’t think sports salaries aren’t at least funded in part by taxpayers has not been paying attention.

I don’t have to pay for part of Derek’s salary if I don’t want to. That’s the difference between the private and public sector.

The Yankees’ new stadium is now the most expensive ever even imagined, coming in at a staggering $2.3 billion. That includes its attendant parking garages and replacement parkland, but even the stadium construction budget alone is incredible, now standing at $1.56 billion.
Of that, the public – city, state, and federal taxpayers – are now covering just shy of $1.2 billion, by far the largest stadium subsidy ever. In fact, even discounting the $417 million in property-tax breaks (if you’re inclined to agree with Lieber), it’s still the largest stadium subsidy ever. The Yankees, meanwhile, would be on the hook for just $670 million, after counting property-tax breaks.

Money is fungible. Every subsidy/tax break provided to the owners new toys (stadiums are some sort of “I’ve got a bigger dick” thing among owners) contributes to the pot of maoney available for payroll. So yeah, you’re contributing to Jeter’s salary whether or not you go to games, buy the merchandise or watch them on the idiot box.

The above does not justify paying someone $140,000 annually to do a job that only requires a sixth grade education and the ability to lean on a broom, but dammit, shouldn’t we stop subsidizing billionaire owners and their millionaire employees to do something they’d be doing anyway?

Usually Chris Matthews tries to be non-partisan, but
his whole approach on the nudie scans is “Come on, grow up.”
Is that what maturity is, surrendering the the State?
