So ObamaCare has turned something bad into something worse. I cannot comprehend the fact that there are people in this country who trust the government to do anything more than change a light bulb.

Statists think that if they just get their guys in, they will fix everything for them. The federal government is incapable of fixing this country’s most serious problems for a whole host of reasons. We’re going to have to figure out how to start doing it ourselves and pretending that Washington DC doesn’t exist.

I don’t know. I just really can’t understand why anyone in this day and age would have any trust in government what so ever. Its one failure after another.

    - TSA pat-down leaves bladder cancer patient soaked in his own urine.
    - Obama says he supports new TSA security measures.

    - UN vote gives the okay for member countries to execute gay people.

Who needs commentary. If that doesn’t cover the current zeitgeist of idiots in charge everywhere I don’t know what does.

Regarding UN vote to allow execution of homosexuals. As Paul Harvey used to say, its not all one world.

Rumor has it those who refuse the naked scan will be required to go through the delousing truck before boarding the aircraft.

  6. #6 |  Alex |

What in the world is Obama trying to accomplish here? The pro-endless-war people hate him already, and his base hates this TSA bullshit. Is he trying to get fired (voted out)?

these ‘isolated incidents’ paint a pretty vivid portrait of the democratic tyranny we’ve become.

I’d like to watch a special defenestration clip with me throwing the tsa assholes responsible for humiliating the guy with the ostomy out of a window from a 4th floor s&m dungeon. They would’ve been thoroughly worked over by some retired world wrestling midgets and would’ve landed on the freeway leading away from the airport and there’d be lots of trucks loaded with freight grinding them into the pavement.

My best friend had to wear colostomys/ileostomys for months after a motorcycle crash last year- with all of his devastating injuries, you could still see how humiliated he was when these things broke seal. It’s way past time to beat their asses.

Not surprised that Obama has his usual “I’m frustrated but I’ll do nothing about it” take on surveillance issues. Somewhat surprised that Hilary Clinton was seemingly more critical:

Asked if she would submit to a pat-down, Clinton replied: “Not if I could avoid it, no. I mean, who would?… I understand how difficult it is, and how offensive it must be for the people who are going through it,” Clinton added. “We have to be constantly asking ourselves, ‘How do we calculate the risk?’ And sometimes we don’t calculate it correctly,” she said.

Today’s morning links are particularly infuriating. I need a link to kittens or some other cute shit to calm down.

RE: Four Loko. Sounds like the reason people get hammered on it is the % ABV instead of the caffeine. According to wiki, they are 6%, 10% or 12% depending on the type of Four Loko and state regulations. 2 tall boy cans of 12% beer will get most people pretty fired up. If someone drinks these expecting it to have the same effect as Natty Light, then they’re going to be in for a surprise.

Sounds like a headache in a can to me. But when I was 19, hell yeah!

So I served 3 years in Iraq so TSA can do this? We might as well leave Afghanistan and Iraq right now because we have lost. I thought the democratic party supported for civil liberties.

Donkey shit stinks just the same as Elephant shit.

Anthony thank you for risking your life for the freedoms we once had. What you did in reality is help throw piss on the old guy. Of course he should not have been hiding a bag of liquid on his person.

  14. #14 |  CK |

But why do you call them “unintended”. They make perfect sense and were easily predictable responses. When one knows that one’s behaviours or the incentives one offers will lead to a set of rational and profitable behaviours, then the behaviours cannot be unintended.

There’s something macabre about TSA, the prez, saying “we
have to do this” regarding TSA groping. All 50 million
fliers are going to have to prove they are not tare-ists just to
get on a plane, in the Land Of the Free. I’m currently looking for
a job and real estate in the Land of the Not-So-Free. Can’t be any worse than here.

  16. #16 |  Dave Krueger |

What this means is that, depending on the ingredient ratios, if one were to consume 23.5 ounces of Red Bull cocktails, one could very well be consuming far more caffeine and alcohol than there is in any single can of Four Loko.

If you mix up vodka and Red Bull into a 23.5 ounce drink with 12% alcohol, you’ll have 159 mg of caffeine.

If you mix up vodka and Red Bull into a 23.5 ounce drink with 135 mg of caffeine, you will wind up with 16% alcohol.

While these the vodka and red bull combo results in higher concentrations of these ingredients, it is not “”far more”.

Of course, the drink shouldn’t be banned regardless of the concentration of these ingredients, but the author should have his facts straight before he makes claims like that.

They already did change the lightbulb, and they screwed that up too (remember incandescents?).

    Defenestration: The Movie.

Ah, the one area where the U.S. is undisputed world leader. Movies. Well, okay, I mean aside from our current leadership roll in actively bombing more countries than anyone else (I think, with Yemen, it’s up to four now).

I can’t wait for John Stewart to really nail Obama to the wall about this.

Once he gets tired of mocking buffoons like Glenn Beck who don’t even hold an elected office, he’s gonna write up a scathing, funny interview for the candidate he championed and soft-balled into office. It’s gonna be great hearing him grill the president about why it’s necessary to demean and violate every flying man, woman and child in this country in the name of security theater. Or why a private, ex-DHS lobbyist influenced such a huge security protocol decision.

    Yep, any day now.

  22. #22 |  Leon Wolfeson |

Well, “ObamaCare” is what was left of a deacent reform after the far right had stripped out anything which might help patients. Why so surprised?

There are several *functioning* health systems in the world which run on insurance and private delivery of services, pick one and adopt it wholesale already.

  24. #24 |  Brandon |

So does this mean we’re racist if we object to the groping now?

  25. #25 |  Brandon |

“One of the most frustrating aspects of this fight against terrorism is that it has created a whole security apparatus around us that causes huge inconvenience for all of us,” Obama said.

    “Except me,” he omitted. Prick.

I’m-a run for Congress and my platform’s gonna be “I’m doing it so I don’t have to get felt up by TSA freaks”

From the time difference, you were probably working on your comment at the moment I hit “submit”.

    Just a coincidence.

Al qaeda is sitting back, laughing their asses off because they have discovered they don’t even have to blow anything up. All they have to do it get creative about smuggling scary substances aboard airplanes and then watch as American’s line up and beg to give up their freedom in hopes that the gubmint will protect them from the boogy man.

So, when they call it the “land of the free and the home of the brave”, they are mistaken on both counts. Our biggest enemy isn’t in Pakistan or Yemen. It’s in Washington DC. Al qaeda doesn’t have the power to wreck the U.S., so they need an ally. Congress and the President will fill that roll just fine.

I say we prosecute their asses for material support to terrorism. Nah, fuck that. Let’s just torture their asses and then send them off to secret prisons in Eastern Block countries for indefinite internment. I think we can safely say they are “the worst of the worst”, so who could possibly object?

  29. #29 |  Cynical in CA |

LOL Dave! What’s your proof that “Al Qaeda” (whatever that is) is doing the scary substance smuggling?!

    It’s all black ops now.

  30. #30 |  Waste93 |

    Leon,

The right didn’t write Obamacare. It was written by Democrats and the forced through a lousy piece of legislation because Scott Brown was elected in MA. To get it passed it had to be the same bill the Senate had already passed. This is shown by the lack of a severence clause in the bill that may help kill it.

Combined House and Senate I don’t think a single Republican voted for this POS though some did vote for closure in the Senate. This bill is wholely owned by Reid, Pelosi, and Obama.

I’ve been kicking myself for purchasing plane tickets for Thanksgiving travel. I have never felt such dread and anxiety about air travel before, even after 9/11. I’ve always known the odds are very much in my favor. Now there is a 100% chance of either a privacy violating scan of questionable safety, or outright sexual assault by the government. I’m absolutely terrified of Wednesday.

  32. #32 |  Meister574 |

“I am a good American and I want safety for all passengers as much as the next person,” Sawyer said. “But if this country is going to sacrifice treating people like human beings in the name of safety, then we have already lost the war.”

Yep. That pretty much sums it up.

  33. #33 |  K9kevlar |

Cynical in CA why would black ops come into play? It seems to me that any attempt to disrupt air travel would be a crime in this country. The folks over at wewontfly.com should be expecting a late night visit with all the paperwork sealed by the courts. Remember if you are not with us, you are with the terrorists.

  34. #34 |  K9kevlar |

Matt why so scared? Just SUBMIT! Get up Wednesday morning, look in the mirror and say fuck you. Fuck your hopes. Fuck your dreams. Fuck everything you hoped this world had promised. Now get out there and be a good serf. This is America Matt. You still have the freedom to obey. Don’t be a pussy. You can’t escape from Sobiborn until you get put in the camp.

There’s something macabre about TSA, the prez, saying “we

Chertoff is good if he can get the Prez to run interference for him. I stand by my prediction that after Pistole said over the weekend that nothing was going to change, Chertoff was going to be point man on the full-court press leading into Thanksgiving. Man, I really hope there is an opt-out storm on Wednesday.

    #28 Cynical in CA

LOL Dave! What’s your proof that “Al Qaeda” (whatever that is) is doing the scary substance smuggling?!

No proof. Just speculation. A bomb that doesn’t explode is a scary substance and we’ve had several of those since 9/11. It’s possible the bombers were klutzes, but maybe the success of the plan didn’t really hinge on the bomb exploding. Maybe they saw a benefit of having the bomber get caught and have to go through the court system. Whether the bomb explodes or not, the end result is the wholesale sacrifice of civil liberties on the alter of security.

Al Queda is a little known terrorist organization that is linked to everything evil on the planet from the taste of broccoli to the inevitable spiraling of the earth into the sun. Read about it here.

  37. #37 |  Matt |

Everyone has been telling me to just go along with it or laugh it off. It’s that state of mind that scares me most of all.

  38. #38 |  Cynical in CA |

    Dave/K9,

I’m off to Palm Springs. All this outrage is going to have to wait until I get back. The game is over as far as I’m concerned. K9, your #34 comment pretty much sums it up from here on out.

Leon Wolfeson (#21):Well, ‘ObamaCare’ is what was left of a deacent reform after the far right had stripped out anything which might help patients. Why so surprised?

You rewrite history and accuse Republicans of doing something that anyone who read the news knows is absolutely false?

The “far right” never laid a finger on the Health Care Deform legislation. That monstrosity was written up in secret, by Democrats, with not a single Republican being allowed to touch it (not that any wanted to). Don’t you remember all the campaign promises from Obama about transparency, allowing the public to read bills for several days before passage? Well, why the hell do you think he broke that promise? Because if people knew some of the really rotten parts (like IRS 1099 forms, which amount to a massive tax on businesses in wasted time), they would have clammored against passage and spooked the on-the-fence Democrats. Harry Reid and Nancy “Most Ethical Congress” Pelosi simply could not allow this.

There are several *functioning* health systems in the world which run on insurance and private delivery of services, pick one and adopt it wholesale already.

Functioning for whom? Why must an entire nation of hundreds of millions of people adopt one? Why can’t you just let individuals make up their own minds how to pay for their doctor bills?

  40. #40 |  K9kevlar |

For all of you afraid that the US has become a police state, do not be concerned. The DHS/TSA bedbug eradication program will not begin until next year. Insect screening and termination policy is still being worked out. Besides Bin Laden has not even released the tape taking credit for the bedbug infestation.

  41. #41 |  K9kevlar |

For anyone who still thinks the “Ground Zero Mosque” is a simple matter of libertarian property rights, care to tell me why they applied for a $5 million federal grant to construct the damn thing?

Care to explain how this would not qualify as state-subsidized religion?

And while we’re at it, anyone want to explain why the U.S. government spent $15 million last year to restore and expand a mosque in Egypt?

  43. #43 |  Charlie O |

Eric Lipp, executive director of Open Doors Association, which works with businesses and the disability community, called what happened to Sawyer “unfortunate.”

UNFORTUNATE!!!!?!????!!? Fuck you, unfortunate. Had that been me, I assure you that more than myself would have been soaked in urine. I say fling that urine as far and wide as humanly possible. Let the TSA share your “misfortune.” Fuck Al Queda. TSA are the new terrorists.
