Even if the owner didn’t intend the name to be ironic (and hopefully they did), I think the irony is delicious. If it is successful, they could use the profits to open up “Pol’s Pot” next door.

Funny, I thought that the state was COMPELLED to prosecute, whether or not the victim wanted to press charges. Hundreds of examples, but most famously (and quite recently) a certain film director comes to mind…

How did you know they were mail carriers? In uniform, or some other object of clothing that officially ID’d them? Or did they just volunteer the info?

However, if you look at the Boulevard du Temple photo, I think it’s clearly a human figure, and he is positioned on the sidewalk so his legs can’t be confused with tree branches. Given the long exposure times of daguerreotypes, it’s not surprising the first attempts were landscape images, and thus the first human figure photographed might be a person inadvertently captured in one of the landscapes.

I’ll put it to you this way: if you’re going to claim you’ve finally got a photo of a real, genuine human, don’t show me a blurry, grainy, badly exposed blob of something that could be anything! Show me a human! Close up. In focus. And even then, I won’t believe you, because pictures are too easy to fake these days, so you better actually have a human body on hand as proof.

The children are depending on their government to make sure we don’t have another lost generation of peaceful, generally productive, otherwise law abiding pot smokers out there living there lives and mocking the futility of their government’s drug war. The tide is turning!

Ripping ensued. The male mail carrier’s jaw was shaking. Then Clifford the big red dog ended and my 3 year old started pulling on my leg. It’s fun having an in-person flame war.

I love the education levels of our population. Julian Assange is guilty of “treason” according to the commenter. That’s just brilliantly stupid. As a citizen of Australia, which qualifies as “anywhere that isn’t the united states” under the definition of “not treason”, I don’t think he’s eligible for the death penalty under treason.

Michael and Gaile Seaton’s daughter, Stacy, was found dead in a Bowie park in 2005. She was just 18. Their memories of that day are crystal-clear, and not just because it was the day they lost their daughter. It was also the way police handled her murder. Michael Seaton says initially, officers said Stacy Seaton died from hitting her head because of a drug overdose.

“They said it’s because she’s pale. And my wife said she always pale. My wife has skin cancer and so my daughter stayed out of the sun intentionally. That’s how they were basing it,” Michael Seaton says.

After Stacy Seaton was pronounced dead, her mother was not allowed to see her at the hospital. After forcing her way in, Gaile Seaton saw blood coming from her daughter’s head. She eventually implored a nurse to call for X-rays, which showed that her daughter had been shot in the head.

Michael Seaton said by then, the police were way behind in finding his daughter’s killer.

“So the whole time, the crime scene is left unattended. Now, you’re having to change midstream on how you’re thinking about everything from a suicide or a drug overdose to murder,” he says.

The Seatons are asking law enforcement, in particular first responders, to be more thorough. An arrest was made in their daughter’s murder more than four years later. The suspect faces trial in January.

Julian Assange is certainly making a dent during his time on the planet. It makes my Wiki-Two-And-A-Half-Men-Leaks website seem like shit. Why did I think people would be interested in illiterate emails from Charlie Sheen?! He basically just calls John Cryer a hack and links to LOLCats.
