Lena Horne, RIP

Monday, May 10th, 2010

I realize I’m going to sound about twice my age when I write this, but this performance is far sexier than 90 percent of the scantily-clad booty-shaking crap on MTV. (When MTV is actually playing music, I mean.) Not that I’m opposed to scantily-clad booty-shaking.

Just saying. There’s something to be said for the understated.

Does MTV actually play any music at all these days?

    “I’ll be in my bunk.”
Waiting for the strap to fall a second time was just icing on the cake.

My daughter’s name is Lena, so when people would ask how that’s spelled, I’d say, ‘L E N A- like Lena Horne.’ I’ve always loved the class she exuded.

I remember her as a guest on Sesame Street and The Muppet Show. Super-classy lady. She’ll be missed.

    No Autotune? Really??? /sarcasm

It’s not really a matter of being twice one’s age or such… it’s simply knowing the difference between sexy and trampy.

I didn’t realize she’d passed until I came across this post. I’m reading her bio on the Mercury News site and parts of it are really sad.

Can we please reach the level here in the US where our first reaction is, “she’s talented, beautiful, smart, sexy, strong and generally a class act” instead of “she’s black?” Substitute whatever traits you’d like for a male.

I mean, wouldn’t that be better?

She was the very definition of beauty and class.

Thanks to Sony Music Entertainment, I can’t watch this video in my country.
