Wednesday, April 28th, 2010- Cop gets away with killing two in possible DUI case because his fellow officers didn’t bother testing him for alcohol (until eight hours later). Judge who dismissed the charges is the came judge who dismissed charges last year against the cops caught beating up a couple of businessmen at a Chicago bar.
- So all those measures in the health care bill that were going to keep costs down? They won’t take effect for years. If at all.
- Tea Partiers respond to the Jim Bovard article I linked to over the weekend.
- William Anderson has more on the increasingly surreal Tonya Craft child molestation case.
- The M.I.A. video for her song “Born Free” is pretty intense. Themes include SWAT teams and police militarization, government power, and racial profiling. (Warning: It’s graphic, violent, and contains images of naked people you probably didn’t want to see naked.)
- A fine use of taxpayer dollars: 74-year-old Canadian woman extradited on a 30-year-old pot charge.

Cop DUI story:
“Everything that happened on the street that morning happened in a very short period of time,” Gainer wrote. “There was no time to formulate this conspiracy to protect the defendant.”
I want some of what this guy is smoking.
“There was no time to formulate this conspiracy to protect the defendant”
The conspiracy was in place long before this incident ever transpired. We little people call it “The Blue Wall of Silence”
DUI:
So, this guy was tested 8 hours after the crash and he blew a 0.032, meaning he was obviously drinking PRIOR to the crash. I’m sure the prosecutor can get some “forensic expert” to testify as to what his BAC was at the time of the crash, taking his sex and weight into account. They should still charge him with involuntary manslaughter. My brother got convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the death of a passenger in his car during an accident where the cops determined both drivers were at fault, but that neither was speeding or impaired. His passenger (his G/F at the time) snapped her neck and died instantly due to being asleep in the front passenger seat and the seatbelt restraining her body, but not her head. I don’t see why this cop can’t be charged with the same. BTW, my brother only got 181 days of probation, but it’s still something.
Also, how is the LT’s statement not believable? The cop obviously had been drinking as evidenced by the 0.032 BAC, so why is it that the court doesn’t believe that he had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol?
Anyone who thought the democrats’ health care bill would have any sensible cost controlling measures that actually materialized is a fool.
Who needs a formula? Just use the template.
Tea Partiers resorting to predictable fallacies. If Bovard isn’t with us, he’s against us. LIBERAL! SOCIALIST! HATES AMERICA!. MEDIA BIAS! SOFT ON TERRORISM! AAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
So to paraphrase the Judge:
“Police witnesses reporting bloodshot eyes and alcohol on the breath? A .03 on the breathalyzer eight hours after arrest? Video footage of him pounding back drinks right up until the accident? Mister, we try people in this country based on *evidence*, not on circumstantial fluff.”
Can anyone ever see a judge saying that about one of us not-above-the-law peons?
Nando:
The guy was seen on video sucking down 7 drinks (3 beers, 4 shots) prior to the accident.
It’s incomprehensible that the first responders didn’t notice he had been drinking.
What I bet? The guy that blew the whistle on him by ordering his arrest… he’ll be labeled a ‘rat’ and his career will be damaged.
All hail the new professionalism!
The conspiracy to protect “brothers in blue” from the consequences of their own illegal actions was formulated decades ago, you dissembling ass. The responding cops surely didn’t have to start from scratch in this case, just follow SOP. Most cops, many prosecutors and apparently some judges are a part of it.
Re: Tonya Craft
Wiiitch!
Burrrrn her!
Wiiitch!
The hunt continues.
Wow they are quite literally above the law. Funny how they hammer us without showing the least bit of mercy but they show such mercy to one of their own. Literally two classes of people. It wasn’t meant to be that way.
Jesus Radley, Bashing Obama’s health care and Tea Partiers in the same blog post. You’re going to be left with no friends but us Agitator-tots.
She was arrested on a felony warrant upon trying to enter the US. What exactly did you expect CBP to do? Let her go?
There’s got to be some comedy behind arresting a 74-year old women on pot warrant issued on April 1st, 30 years ago.
@ 12,
Seriously. How are the hardcore lefties and rightwingers going to comprehend this? How can they compute this grey area in their black and white world?
The MIA video appears to be a stark warning about the upcoming Ginger Wars.
Re: Tonya Craft
I’m guessing there’s a Bar rule about disparaging your opponents that prevent the defense from calling the prosecutors themselves liars.
If I were Tonya Craft’s defense, I would simply record my protest of the actions of the judge and prosecutors and stop even trying until the appeal. The whole thing is a joke. The prosecutors and judge should be in jail, whether or not this woman is guilty.
It’s called “professional courtesy.” Failing to observe it would probably get the defense lawyer a contempt of court citation.
1) It isn’t a grey area. It is just outside of their one-dimensional worldviews.
2) They will ignore the points where he agrees with them and smear him for the disagreement.
The M.I.A. video reminds me of recent UK headlines, where ginger kids have received death threats and have been ridiculed in class by their teachers.
I felt the MIA video was very timely considering the AZ immigration laws. An Interesting video. (And a kick-ass track!)
Bovard sadly fails to realize the irony of complaining about being called a racist, Nazi, etc…. On a hate site run by a neo-confederate who promotes a great deal of authoritarianism.
I’m disappointed that Bovard couldn’t find a more appropriate forum to express his views.

Yes, troll.
No “if” about it. They won’t ever be realized.
