My appearance on Fox News’ Freedom Watch from a few weeks ago is up at Reason.tv. Judge Napolitano and I discussed NYPD’s “stop and frisk” policy and the department’s possible arrest quotas. Click the image below to watch.

niiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
how are the judge’s and stossel’s videos not required watching for all high school students? these are great subjects to debate.
It always makes me feel like smiling when I see Judge Napolitano on TV. He is one of the few judges I can think of whom I would have no trouble addressing as “Your Honor.” I’d love it if he ran for President, but I’m sure he’s smart enough not to do that.
Off topic, but here’s a story for you, Radley.
Wife: “Hi 911, I think my husband may have overdosed on sleep meds.”
911: “Ok, we’ll send someone.”
Police: *Tazer and shoot husband*

I got arrested and taken to the station for pissing in the rain behind a garbage can, as discreetly as I could, at around 2 AM in NYC when Giuliani was busy going psycho
after re-election Megalomania. By undercover cops.
Imagine blowing your undercover status to bust a guy for
pissing in the rain at 2 AM in a city where they don’t have
public bathrooms.
Great information, Radley! I liked your presentation when you were speaking, and you made good points, especially the matter of “conservatives” often not understanding the concept of liberty when it comes to an individual’s own body.
If I may make a suggestion or two: would it kill you to smile a little and get some rest? :) (Serious Face is serious, and your dark bags under your eyes are showing.)
Yizmo Gizmo “Imagine blowing your undercover status to bust a guy for

That shouldn’t even be illegal.
Woog’s right Radley about smiling. People listen more favorably to people they like and you really should smile at least a little.
I see a Catch-22 when it comes to arrests/convictions/safety.
All politicians want to claim that they are reducing the crime rates, so they tell the police to go out and make more arrests. But, then more arrests mean that there is more crime (since most people think that innocent people don’t get arrested to begin with), and more crime means more arrests. Before you know it, the politician’s opponents are out there claiming that the streets were safer before the incumbent came to power.
That was not long enough. Even with allies it seems people talk over each other and ideas never get fully developed.
You need your own show. You’ve got the resume, but is it something you would want to do?
Also your pitch and cadence sound just like a guy I went to high school with. Weird. Though he was lucky enough to not be a Clots fan.
I think your on camera skills are improving. Still a bit too much “uh” and “ah” early on but you warm up pretty well. Less shifty eyes this time. I hope you get more time in front of the camera so you can continue to improve. Smiling is hard when you are talking about something you obviously feel so serious about.
Smiling is for nubs. The serious face makes you look badass.
I’ll chime in too. Excellent job.
I agree with the ‘uhs’ and ‘ahs’ being too much, it was quite noticeable to me but I’ve got a public speaking background. I know thats not really ‘public speaking’ in the traditional sense, its more conversational, but it would probably be a good idea to practice thinking and speaking without relying on the ahs to buy time for thinking. A silent pause works best, or even drawing out words if the silence bothers you. (e.g. “And they were referring to…the….second time that it happened” as opposed to “And they were referring to, uh, the, uh second time that it happened”)
I thought your demeanor was just fine and appropriate. You have a good voice, and I was thinking that yours would make a good radio voice if you drop the ahs.
Radley is a younger Michael Chiklis.

Personally, I don’t think the questions were really as good a match for your field of expertise as they could have been. He seemed to want to zero in on statistics that would be difficult to recite without some pretty serious preparation in terms not only of the numbers, but also of the sources.
But, the last remark about under reporting traditional crime, while bolstering arrests of trivial non-crimes was a perfect thought to leave people with.
To be honest, that stop and frisk policy makes me less inclined to go there on a photo expedition. Walking around with a bunch of obtrusive camera equipment (and I carry a lot of it) would probably just make me a target for cops looking for someone to harass to make it look like they’re doing something. My other favorite city, San Francisco, is looking better everyday.
