Ummm, so as not to confuse anyone, the thank you to “Chablis” is a personal one. She is known to me from another board and found the story on Corey Maye which ultimately led me to Balko.

Thanks loads to Radley Balko for his dogged determination to see to it that justice in Mississippi is a possibility and that Hayne will have a hard time finding work in the state! [b]Thanks also to all those who helped provide Balko with information on Hayne and thanks again to “Chablis” for finding the story on Corey Maye which really started all this.[/b] All of you have much to be proud of with the passing of this bill.

Does the Miss. Sup. Ct. take all appeals or does it have to grant cert. first before taking briefs on the merits? If it’s the latter, then your reason post omits a key step.

I…I don’t know what to say. Normally, I come here for the morning update so that I can kill my morning cheerfulness and experience the feeling of knowing that society is on a creeping slide to total police control. Now, though, there’s a chance that in Mississippi — Mississippi of all places, where I’m pretty sure they just got rid of the “he needed a lynchin’” defense last week — there’s some hope for real honest-to-god justice.

Now how am I supposed to feel depressed until lunch? Damn you, Balko, you’ve taken away my excuse for secret office drinking!
