Not enough snow for DC. When the top of the Washington Monuments pokes up like a tombstone, that’ll be enough snow. Too bad about the Library of Congress, Smithsonian and Balko…but that’s the price of progress.

And in other snow related insanity, some petty tyrant police chief in a small North Carolina town imposed a curfew on the residents, banned the sale of alcohol, and banned the sale and public possession of firearms – all because of a “snow emergency.”

Story from Harrisonburg, VA where two college kids were charged with a felony of “throwing missiles at occupied vehicles” for pelting an unmarked police car with snowballs.

Lived for a while just southwest of Syracuse, NY, up in the hills. Winter of 2000-2001, the city of Syracuse officially got about 190 inches of snow. Up in the hills we got over 250 (stopped tracking at some point). It really does start to get excessive after a while.

But even I can’t remember a time up there where there were multiple 18+” storms in such rapid succession. Biggest single storm we had that winter was about 2 feet. We had a bunch of 1 foot snowfall days, but in Syracuse those don’t amount to much in terms of things shutting down.

That’s an awful lot of snow.

I’m sure glad it’s not happening to me. :)

(If for no other reason than 20 inches of snow would literally cause Albuquerque to shut down. People here can’t drive in the rain. That much snow would make their heads explode.)

Get your snow shovel ready ’cause it’s going to be a doozy! At least the dogs will have fun afterwards.

BTW, I lived in the DC-area for a little over 6 years and I never saw it this bad. I also lived in Spokane, WA for 2 years and I never saw it this bad. It really makes me glad I moved to NC last summer!
