Tuesday, February 9th, 2010- Virginia college students caught throwing snowballs at an unmarked police car charged with “throwing missiles at occupied vehicles,” a felony. I’m sure terrorism charges are on the way.
- The Mayans are messing with us.
- Lede: “A Torrance police sergeant will not be charged in an off-duty hit-and-run collision, although he admitted he fled because his “judgment was impaired by alcohol,” according to prosecutors.”
- Jessica, Tony, and Kevin get an A+!
- More felony, child porn charges for “sexting” teens.
- Studies find that race, gender of judges have significant impact on rulings.

What is this world coming to? For this very act back in the day (I didn’t see that it was a police car until after the snowball somehow found its way into its partially open window, honest), I would have been a 12-year felon instead of a rambunctious kid who needed to think more about the consequences of his actions. No charges were leveled and I haven’t thrown a snowball at anyone or anything since without their express permission or challenge to engage.
Hitting someone with a felony charge for throwing snow balls is swatting a gnat with an elephant. I am appalled.
A+? “aloud”"allowed”
A+? “aloud” does not equal “allowed”
//Resubmitted because angle brackets are not aloud in comments. ;)
Exactly, Let’s Be Free. You don’t have the proper respect for authoritah, since you weren’t punished to the full extent of whatever law breaking could be hung on you. It doesn’t matter that you’ve never done it since. You needed to be punished to get the proper attitude adjustment. And see now, you’re actually questioning the government. That wouldn’t happen if they’d beaten you down before.
“Two area teens were charged with felonies this weekend for “sexting,” underscoring the need for parents to know what’s on their child’s phone and computer.”
Or, you know, underscoring the need for parents to keep their children and their cell phones safe from teachers and law enforcement. Journalism fail.
“It can affect your job, your career, your whole life for what was just a stupid incident,” Murphy said.
It sure as hell will now!!!
“…”So we try to weigh and balance those as reasonably as we can, hoping that the Legislature will give us some guidance and a fix.”
Telling the legislature they are stupid by putting their kiddlets in jail and marking them for life is probably not the BEST way to fix this. How about a letter to them and leave the kids alone to grow up!

Big surprise there eh?

December 24: 6″. Snow packed so hard by snowplow, l broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the son of a bitch who drives that snowplow, I’ll drag him through the snow by his balls. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then he comes down the street at a 100 miles an hour and throws snow all over where I’ve just been! Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas carols with her and open our presents, but I was busy watching for that goddamn snowplow.December 24: 6″. There’s snow frustration like snow frustration in the city!
About the college students…
Doesn’t surprise me. JMU students are either accepted or hated in Rockingham County. Many of the locals love the cheap labor and income that they bring, but hate the usual college town antics. While I was finishing high school in the area, Harrisonburg police created a riot at JMU by having the supreme intelligence to start semi-SWAT style takedowns of drunk college students well after homecoming celebrations had started, and in the student housing block best known for partying. It was so bad that cops from **neighboring counties** had to come in to quell it, IIRC.
That’s college-level English? Or is it just a joke that I’m obviously no getting?
TC- I picked out -”It can affect your job, your career, your whole life for what was just a stupid incident,” Murphy said.- as well, but I kinda felt it was a puritan commenting on sex in general…
Remedial English, right?
So that butthole of a DA knows full well that the laws are too harsh and misapplied, but he still goes ahead with charges? Words fail. Never heard of prosecutorial discretion, has he??
@11
Martin, I’m sure he has but that reserved for cops and other prosecutors.
Extreme penalties and laws are just the state’s way of putting you in your place (which is doing a headstand in a shit pile). Toss a snowball? 5 years in prison! Now they can negotiate with you so you’ll plea guilty and thank them for being so merciful. The Fist’s interactions with the public (taxes, etc.) tend to always follow this model.

Virginia college students caught throwing snowballs at an unmarked police car charged with “throwing missiles at occupied vehicles,” a felony.
What’s the problem? Throwing snow at a moving vehicle may impair the driver’s vision. If the snow enters the vehicle and strikes the driver, it may cause the driver to lose control. Either of these conditions may pose a severe safety hazard.
In the absence of any good reason or excuse for having thrown snow at the vehicles, it would seem reasonable to presume that it was done maliciously. As such, I see no reason to believe that prosecution of the students is out of line with the intent of the legislators who wrote the law.
Oh, no doubt, supercat. The cops should have gotten out of their vehicles and drawn their guns, in fine Washington DC cop-style.
Even better, blow away one or two of those miscreant whippersnappers to show the rest of the commoners what happens when upsetting the guardians of the state.
