Cops nab suspected drug dealer by tracking him through World of Warcraft.
The Haley Barbour juggernaut rolls on! God help the GOP if this is the best they can do.
Anne Applebaum predicts trouble for totalitarianism in the next decade. Save for China.
Britt Hume says Tiger will be okay as long as he finds Jesus. Because Christians have never been known to cheat on their spouses.
Arizona immigrant rights group using text messaging to warn about impending (and illegal) brown people sweeps by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Good example from the recent TSA leak imbroglio of why you should never cooperate with the police.

Yet another reason not to play WoW.
Arpaio demands ban on text messaging in 3, 2, 1…
I think the GOP needs to stop getting God’s help, if you know what I mean. A more secular, business oriented Republican could go the distance against Obama. When is the puff for Gary Johnson coming out?
@ TSA leak: according to teh guy’s blog, the TSA broke his computer, but he is hoping they get him a new one.
I’ve heard Haley say many times he’s not interested. If it came to a choice between Barbour or Obama, I’d root for a meteor strike.
Brit Hume is a wackadoodle. Sounds like Tiger learned a valuable Buddhist lesson to me: suffering is caused by an attachment to worldly desire.
” God help the GOP if this is the best they can do.” God help US if this is the best the GOP can do.
the bigger govt gets, the more comprehensive databases get, the more frequent these stories about cops tracking down low level criminals are going to become.
you’ll always be looking over your shoulder worrying about some bullshit library fine or speeding ticket…
The thing that gets me about the WoW case is that it wasn’t a government database, it was a private company. Blizzard, a company in California, not only cooperated but did extensive research to help a sheriff’s department in Florida prosecute one of their customers in Canada despite the fact that they had no legal obligation to do so. Over marijuana and some ridiculous Schedule III and IV beefs. Blizzard will never see another dollar from me. Then the fucking US Marshals and the Mounties got involved to deport and extradite this guy back to Florida at god knows what cost. Crack work there, guys, thanks for protecting us from a basement troll who slings scrips in his spare time.
The fact that the republican party even still exists after Bush is incredible. It’s even more embarrassing for the democrats that they couldn’t field a candidate that could beat him. It’s certainly a measure of the mentality of the average American voter that they didn’t dissociate themselves from either party.
Let’s face it, the world is getting scarier every day. If Bush could be President, then so can Barbour. Maybe he’ll run on a promise to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (with honor, of course). Or maybe he’ll just want to nuke them both.

Absolutely. Blizzard is a fucking narc. I’d also like to claim that I’m boycotting them, but since I don’t really play computer games I’m not exactly lost business.
I agree never voluntarily give up anything to the authorities. With that said, it is a lot easier in theory than in practice when your livelihood is being threatened and you don’t have the resources to fight it. Whether or not this guy did I don’t know.

To paraphrase a well known quote “Those who make peaceful resolution impossible, make violent resolution inevitable.”
There is no justice left in this country but private justice.
If you haven’t already seen it, I highly recommend taking a half hour to watch The “Never Talk to the Police” lecture by Regent University Law School Professor James Duane, which is embedded in the page about TSA. It’s free, just scroll down to the bottom of the page.
hamburglar007: the only resource that was necessary was knowledge of the difference between a search warrant and a subpoena.
Re: Tiger and Jesus. The point of the Hume feature was that: given Tiger already committed adultery, at least Christianity offered a path to forgiveness. It has nothin to do with Christianity keeping him safe from past or future temptation. The strange part is that apart from Christian morality, I don’t know why anyone would object to Tiger’s adultery. It certainly isn’t illegal in Florida. If you are going to be an adulterer, Bhuddism seems like the ideal place to be.
RE: the Republicans. Obviously with a seriously underachieving empty suit like Obama to run against, the Republicans will have to dig deep to find someone to lose to him. I have faith they can find such a person.
@#14,
Also watch part II where the LEO now in law school validates everything Duane says.
I remember that “don’t talk to cops” video, posted on the end of this article. It came from the law school that the Christian Broadcasting Network was associated with! As most know, being Christian does not mean you are, anywhere near, perfect! It has nothing to do with innocence or guilt on this earth! But, he did a fine job in pointing out why you are absolutely insane to utter one word to the cops. Be quiet and cooperative. But keep you trap shut! Not all Christians are stupid!
By the way, the cops went to my brother’s house looking from my wife, once. They told my sister-in-law they had a “warrant”. (She had another problem, at the time,) She called her lawyer and found out, it was a subpoena (for a medical bill, most likely)!
So, this “agent” claiming he had a “warrant” was nothing but a bald face liar. I hope that, for that reason, this can be thrown out of court. Cops and liars, working for a better Amerika!

God has no business in the government. Isn’t that what the Separation of Church and state is about. Then again, whatever a man’s morals are based on, his conscience cannot be ignored. The religious right, for the most part, is based on things that, many times, have nothing to do with Christianity or God! They seem to make up new rules as they go along!
Right. And I’m hoping to win the lottery.
I like my odds better.
I guess this kind of thing is OK at Cato as long as you don’t want to raise any taxes to cover the cost.

I can tell you that Pilon is in the distinct minority at Cato on those issues.
And that those who disagree with him do so . . . um . . . pretty darned vigorously. Read Tim Lynch, Bob Levy, or Gene Healy.
On the one hand, I think it speaks well of Cato that they allow dissent within the building. On the other hand, it’s unfortunate that because of his title, outsiders can point to Pilon’s positions as the “Cato” position, when he’s one of only a couple people in the organization who believes in a Cheney-esque approach to fighting terrorism.
I just watched the Britt Hume thing. It’s unintentionally hilarious. A failing marriage isn’t when you find Jesus, it’s when you find a really good lawyer. You find Jesus when you’re on death row.
“The Haley Barbour juggernaut rolls on! God help the GOP if this is the best they can do.”
Well, there’s always Mark Sanford.
Oops.
Seriously, please don’t give a shit anymore. It’s embarrassing. Let politicians stew in their own feces. Don’t get any on yourself.
