Five-Star Fridays: Reinstate Hank Edition
Friday, January 1st, 2010My colleague Damon Root reminds us that New Year’s Day is the anniversary of the death of the great Hank Williams, Sr.
Here’s my favorite. Lots of great covers of this song, too.

I am a hard rocker. Don’t listen to much country. This is the one country singer that has a place in my heart!
I would’ve gone with this song; Anita Carter looks like she has a couple of orgasms when Hank walks into the frame.
Hank Sr. was my dad’s favorite singer. My dad had a resemblance to Hank. My dad would have been 87 on January 17th of this year if he had lived.
Miss my daddy.
Actually, I like most of his songs. It’s hard to choose btwn Radley’s and Mister DNA’s favorite.
Lonesome Whistle…Mind Your Own Business…Settin’ the Woods on Fire…
It’s like trying to choose a favorite child. Except they’re not my children, I guess.
Judi,
My dad, who died in October of ‘08, was a big Hank Williams fan. At the age of 15, he skipped school to go see Hank play in a nearby South Texas town. After the show, my dad handed Hank the sheet music for “I’m Sorry For You My Friend” and asked for his autograph. As he signed it, Hank asked, “Where did you get this, son?”
Although the ink is faded, my family still has the autographed sheet music.
Another favorite Hank song is one that he didn’t write – “Lost Highway”. It doesn’t do justice to Hank’s version, but here’s my rendition.
I think you did a great job Mister DNA! Thank you!
There’s a reason you’re the king of the bloggers, Radley Balko.
Love the Hank. Just got back from Nashville and the Rhyman Theater and on a store window was a “Reinstate Hank” flyer.
Love this song.
