It’s strange that the blogger considers this video undignified. Why? First of all, the proceeds go to a very good charity, so his heart is in the right place. Secondly, is it undignified to perform a song about Santa? Why is that? I love Christmas music!

I bought the whole Dylan “Chritmas in the Heart” album and I actually enjoy it quite a bit. Now, granted, I have found I have to listen to it alone in my car when I’m driving here or there (sometimes while I’m Christmas shopping!), because I’ve found other people aren’t down with it and are all, “Is he trying to sound like the town drunk?”

So, I play it when I’m alone but it really has helped put me in the spirit of the season. I think his version of “The Little Drummer Boy” (one of my favorite songs of all time, on top of being one of my fave Christmas songs) is the best version I’ve heard. It actually almost brings me to tears.

As for the song you post, I’m a Cleveland boy and we like polka ’round here. Well, some of us anyway. It’s meant in good fun and puts a smile on my face.

On of the nice things about Dylan’s Christmas album is it’s a nice mix of songs meant just for fun and songs that are meant to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. I think it’s a great success. But I understand many people just won’t be down with it, and that’s fine. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in and say I really enjoy the album.

I found that video to be wonderful.

Bob Dylan has been making music for about half a century. The tune he’s singing is rather common in areas which have a connection with polka.

This is the yin to the yang of the Muppet Bohemian Rhapsody.

I haven’t looked into this song yet, but I am hoping, praying, that it was written and performed for a charity. Yes, that’s it. A charity. Just some bizarro Zydeco Christmas tune for the kiddies to benefit some poor folks needing kidney transplants.

#2 yeah, IIRC Dylan basically (while having a lot to say, and doing it well if you like his style) has always had a certain amount of “let’s not take this too seriously” about him, along with the self-promotion bit. In one documentary I recall him being asked something like if he considered himself more a musician or a poet, and his answer was “Well, I’m more of a song and dance man, really,” OSLT. If you look closely (I’m sure this is not news to Radley or many others) he’s often mocking many of those who love his material/image the most.

So yeah, even if it’s Dylan, it’s only rock and roll….
