It actually sounds like there’s something worth considering there. From the linked article:

In its decisions, the state Civil Service Commission, the independent agency charged with ensuring that public employment decisions are made fairly, has chastised the department for rejecting candidates for mental health problems that, in the commission’s view, probably did not exist.

In the most recent case, decided in October, commission chairman Daniel Henderson blasted the Police Department’s psychiatrists for rejecting a female candidate, saying doctors appeared to make their decision based on her appearance and personality. Henderson said the doctors called her “too thin,’’ said “her hair was a mess,’’ and that she gave rigid, robotic responses to their questions.
