Great job, Radley. You’ve really done something incredible here. I love your columns, and I love that you’ve truly made a difference here.

Idea: “Cory Maye” the Movie. Starring Radley Balko as Cory Maye. Just throwing that out there.
Okay, I know that’s silly, but seriously a movie would give this kind of abuse of police power the attention it deserves. Since reading “Overkill” I’ve thought, “This needs to be a documentary.” Seriously, Radley, that would give more attention to the Gestapo tactics that our police are using. Not many people will sit down and read an 80+ page document (which I think is one of the most important documents I’ve ever read), but a lot more will watch an hour-plus documentary.

What was the case where the prosecutor was asking for a change of venue because they said that the jury pool was biased against them? I thought it was this case, but I can’t find any information either way.

Agreed with all, good news and good job.
Disagree that it’s about a jury of one’s peers, rather than by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed but I haven’t read the ruling yet.

Thank you Radley for litterally saving this man’s life. Now he can have a decent lawyer and can get a decent result in this case.

I am very proud of you. If only other attorneys took seeing justice done more than merely winning on behalf of the State.

While I support law and order, I also support the constitution and due process. So when Bill O’Reilly gets all populist about defense attorneys (shameful ratings pandering), when GungaPatterico gets busy carryiing water for cops and prosecutors who act up (and criticizes those like Radley Balko who speak up), perhaps they will take a moment to reflect our system only works if there is justice and due process. Glenn Reynolds got it. I unfortunately expect liberals to be idiotic when it comes to gun rights and home self defense, but it is shameful more conservatives and libertarians did not get it.

The most important thing is getting a new trial. Unlike an appeal, a new trial isn't limited to technical matters: everything is open, including the issues the original trial attorney should have raised.

Mr. Balko,

You’ve done a man’s job in bringing Mr. Mayes case to light and to a large audience. Without your efforts he would be in prison for life or he’d be dead.

I wish Mayes the best on his appeal.

good read, great synopsis. I’d love to see cory win this one outright but I’ll settle for a jury nullification.
