I left DC in 2005, so I haven’t read the City Paper since then. By the time I left, it seemed to me the writers there were willing to sacrifice truth and objectivity for the chance to snark. So I’m not surprised they’re not giving credit where it’s due.

This behavior is all the more stupid because any one with access to the internet will find out that CNN ripped you off. Thus, a temporary benefit for a long term harm to CNN’s reputation. Perhaps the story NOW is CNN ripping you off……

I don’t remember the last time CNN (or any of the mainstream gov’t propaganda outlets) reported a piece of actual news that I hadn’t previously read about months earlier on a blog. Not only do they never mention the original source, they usually leave out key pieces of information if it makes the state looks like the criminals they are.

So while it sucks they’re not citing their *main* source, it’s not the least bit surprising and, on the bright side, your work is reaching the people who were least likely to have read about it anywhere else. Lets face it… the people that rely on CNN, FOX, MSNBC, etc. for their news are are not just un-informed, they’re mis-informed (much worse). Hopefully, CNN doesn’t butcher your work.

At the end of the day, you’re still a productive journalist and they’re nothing more than the public relations department of the state. Your work benefits society, they harm society. So, even though it would suck for you, I’d be happy if everything CNN reported was stolen from you.

First, Radley, I don’t think pointing out the hypocrisy of the mainstream media is whining.

Second, if there was any sort of cosmic justice in this world, Anderson Cooper would bring you on the show and give you a platform to either expound on the problems with Hayne et al. or give you a few minutes to talk about whatever the hell you wanted to.

I think when the traditional media complain of bloggers and news media sites not giving them credit, they’re referring to the credit that comes in the form of a check.
