Mail-Order Forensic Certifications

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Last year, I had a little back-and-forth with a group called the American College of Forensic Examiners. They’re one of the groups Dr. Steven Hayne has relied upon when he misleadingly testifies in court that he is “board-certified” in forensic pathology. They objected to my characterization of them as lacking credibility in the forensics community, though that’s certainly the case in the field by forensic pathology. They’ve been described by many forensic pathologists as a “certification mill.”

Here’s a story about how that organization’s certification of a fraudulent psychiatrist affected a child custody case.

Somewhat related:  Through Google ads, there are a couple of “get your forensics degree online” companies whose ads periodically appear on this site. I’m looking into how I can ask Google to block them.

I click on those ads when I see them. Better that you have their money.

There’s something to be said for leaving those ads alone, since they provide additional evidence of how meaningless a forensics degree really is.

Are you questioning the value of my Cryonic Neurosurgeon diploma?

Good luck. I have acquired actual continuing ed. in crime scene analysis, so I have a strong distaste for diploma mills serving up these “degrees” to people who have watched a bit to much CSI.

Radley, Log into your Google AdSense account, click the AdSense Setup tab, then click the Competitive Ad Filter sub-tab. You can add a list of domains that you want filtered from display on your site.

You could and should just boycott Google. Why support a company that censors the news in China AND America?

Also somewhat related, you have Google ads? I didn’t know. God bless Firefox&extensions!

I like to click-through. Better that you should have their money.

Good luck getting Google to block those…I’ve been trying forever to get Google to block puppy mill ads from my Gmail. The Humane Society CLAIMED to be working with Google, but the ads have only increased.
