So That’s Why Obama’s in Russia

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Over at National Review Online, Veronique de Rugy points to this list (pdf) from Taxpayers for Common Sense showing that the federal government currently has 31 various “czars”—more than Russia had in its entire imperial history.

Everyone of those people is currently working hard to limit excutive power.

In other news, Stephanie Lazarus was back in court today and entered her plea of “not guilty”.

Looks like her lawyer is going after the DNA evidence.

    So Radley,

How’s that “rooting for Obama” thing (over McCain) working for ya?

#3, of course it’s the fault of one person that the two parties put forth both a crapshoot and a known evil. Do you seriously believe the USA would have been better off with McCain, who has an established record as an Oath-breaker? (Granted, Obama sure doesn’t smell like roses, either.)

@scott: Pretty well, I’d imagine. That’s the main difference between the left and the right. The left doesn’t automatically accuse you of treason for pointing out how much the president sucks. The mainstream right, on the other hand, were more than happy to slap that label on anyone that dared criticize Bush.

Either way we might end up with a bad president. At least moderates/centrists aren’t painted as being in league with the terrorists for pointing out what we disagree with…Which was the only argument the right had against people that criticized Bush.
For that matter, actual liberals aren’t liking Obama a whole heck of a lot either.

Had McCain/Palin been elected, I’m sure at the first criticism of them people would be accused of “Pallin’ around with terrists!” in short order. I’ll take freedom of speech and the government being a pain in the butt over being called a terrorist sympathizer for criticizing no bid government contracts.

It also kinda bothers me that people assume liking one candidate over another automatically implies fanatical devotion. We elect presidents, not prom queens. Though it’s getting pretty difficult to tell the difference.

#7, The left doesn’t accuse you of treason when you disagree? Really? So far almost every defense of this presidents positions has been classified as either racist or treasonous by the defenders on the left. Don’t buy into cap and trade? Treason. Don’t like the auto bailouts? It’s because you hate black people. Think maybe he should stand up to dictators? It’s because you hate brown people. Gonna be a long 4 years.

” How do you think conservative talk radio has affected the Legislature’s work?

“The Republicans were essentially threatened and terrorized against voting for revenue. Now [some] are facing recalls. They operate under a terrorist threat: “You vote for revenue and your career is over.” I don’t know why we allow that kind of terrorism to exist. I guess it’s about free speech, but it’s extremely unfair”

If McCain had won reckon Palin would have resigned the Vice-Presidency by now?

People really seem to think that John McCain is different from Obama. I’m not sure why. McCain loves executive power just like Obama does now, and McCain sure as hell doesn’t understand what real liberty is all about. McCain might not have restricted our freedoms the same way Obama does now, but restricted we would be nonetheless.

It really pisses me off how many people can honestly believe that one was better than the other. You might as well argue whether Dalmer was a better serial killer than Ted Bundy.

We really need a Great Lakes Czar? Someone who is a special advisor to the U.S. EPA overseeing its Great Lakes restoration plan? Does anyone else see this as a good script for a MadTV sketch?

    Matt,

McCain might have done exactly the same things as Obama 75% of the time but one thing he would not have done is push through a trillion dollar “stiimulus” plan. McCain wouldn’t have been as quick to toss the iranian and honduran populace under the bus either. Just those 3 issues would have been enough for me to at least have a little bit of “hope” (wish I knew how to make the trademark sign).
