Photo of the Day
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009First Christian Church and Large Arch, Columbus, Indiana. I’m working on a piece for Reason on Columbus, which believe it or not is actually one of the more architecturally interesting cities in the country. It’s also the birthplace of your humble Agitator.

Heh, didn’t know you were from Columbus. I used to drive over there when I lived in Bloomington just to see the buildings. Cool place, lots of Frank Lloyd Wright.
i student taught in columbus indiana.
My wife is from Bloomington, and stopping in Columbus is one the few high points for when we have to return to see her family.
Our family lived in Columbus from 1963 through 1966. Lived in a neighborhood called “Indian Hills”. Ours was the second house built, the Sprouses was the third. The first house in the ‘hood was built by the Pences though no Mike in that family. Wouldn’t surprise me if they were related to Mike Pence as there is a resemblance.
Used to hang out with Brad Sprouse, Steve’s younger brother. We were sports nuts while Steve was only concerned with drawing. There were drawings of women’s dresses and such all over the house. Steve died in March 2004 of a heart attack related to lung cancer.
I remember the ‘oil can’ being built – the North Christian Church, Donner Pool, Sap’s donuts (another neighbor, Sap Essex) going camping in Brown County with the CYO…. good times.
I’ve played many frustrating rounds of golf at Otter Creek in Columbus Indiana. Nice town, great course.
Wow. I recognized the photo right away. Didn’t know you were from Columbus. I was born and raised there. Parents still live there.
