Agitator Live Chat: John Stossel, Thursday at 7:30 pm ET.

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

I’m thrilled to give you, Agitator readers, the chance to pick the brain of America’s most high-profile libertarian, 20/20 co-anchor John Stossel.  John will take your questions this Thursday at 7:30 pm in a live chat at the site you’re reading.

He’ll also be promoting his new blog, as well as his upcoming 20/20 report on the health care debate.

John was gracious enough to give us some of his time, so let’s give him a good turnout.

    Excellent!

I’ll be at work (they block your website), but I’ll enjoy reading the replay.

Stossel isn’t all the way there yet, but he’s really getting it, and has been moving dramatically towards anarcho-libertarianism in recent years.

Good to hear. I’ve got Stossel’s book, ‘Give Me A Break’. While I’m not sure I agree with /everything/ he puts forward, his core thrust — the problems of the government vs the free market — is practically unassailable.

    $330,000 for a god damn outhouse. Jesus on a nuclear-powered pogo stick…

Just imagining what he goes through walking the halls of ABC every day – I give him a ton of credit.

I’d like to ask him his feelings regarding 20/20′s report on guns, specifically the section where they “armed” students in a classroom which was assaulted by a well trained police trainer, and then claimed that citizens arming themselves is a bad idea.

Perhaps a link to this show?

Kudos, Radley! I think Stossel may be the most prominent free-market voice in big media.

BTW, Eric, I doubt Stossel had anything to do with that report. The report was disgusting and really a fraud from any sort of scientific standpoint. However, Stossel has been pretty clear in his reporting and commentary that gun laws don’t mean less gun-related violence. An example is his commentary piece “Gun Control Isn’t Crime Control” and you can go to the 20/20 video site and click on Stossel’s link to see his somewhat contentious interview with another ABC anchor about the same issue.

Stossel lost a lot of credibility when he made Glen Beck out to be a hero on 20/20 instead of the phony he is

I agree with most Stossel on most of the issues, but I can´t stand him.

He means well (and I tend to agree with him), but really he is a typical reporter with a bias and/or message

He dismisses offhand (or completely ignores) any sort of data that contradicts the message he wants to deliver to his audience while making supporting claims without any sort of backup material or data.

Gotta like Stossel, and I hope he will express his views on the “Infomercial” format of ABC’s Health Care town hall, where there was no one there to dispute the claims being made. I guess they only believe in “the fairness doctrine” when it comes to talk radio, but they could at least have involved some serious journalists in the event. ABC really needs to bring Ted Koppel back, whatever it might cost. But they could have involved Stossel, Tapper, or someone able cut through the bull and not back down until they get a solid answer. Stephanopoulos is a bright guy, but is so in the tank for his “big O” that he can’t see straight! But using Diane Sawyer to host this infomercial was just sad! What happened to the hard-hitting ABC News I grew up with???

I am not much of a follower of 20/20, et al, but I have seen John quite a few times and have always appreciated his views and comments.

John Stossel, where were you for Obama’s infomercial? Also I had hoped for a response to Diane Sawyer’s one sided gun control experiment. Are they trying to silence you?

Why wasn’t Stossel debating Obama during the health care townhall? Because he would have made the administration look like fools.
