Gigs Tomorrow
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009Tomorrow, I’ll be speaking about the drug war at the Arlington County Library in Arlington, Virginia.
Someone before me will be defending drug prohibition. I’ll of course be opposing it.
The event starts at 7pm, and is sponsored by the Arlington Campaign for Liberty. The library is located at 1015 N. Quincy St.
Also tomorrow, I’ll be discussing various issues on FreedomWatch, Judge Andrew Napolitano’s web program for FoxNews.com.
I’m scheduled to go on at 2:30pm.

Too bad you can’t predict the lines of argument that the Drug Warrior will follow. Oh wait…
Oh please, let it be Walters…
Judge Napolitano’s got a pretty interesting thing going over at Freedom Watch, and he’s still warming it up. He goes straight for the hardcore Austro-Rothbardians, too. Most Wednesdays he has Ron Paul, Lew Rockwell (that’s one anarchist), someone else from von Mises (two anarchists), some out-there civil disobedience activist like the Free State Project or the Mobile Home Diaries (general rule of libertarian activism- anyone in handcuffs is an anarchist). But he’s also got the name recognition to bring in more interesting notables like that British Member of the European Parliament or John Stossel. He also sprinkles it Fox’s libertarian-leaning talking heads, and the whole show is done in the annoying Fox News WOOOOOSH! loud-music-and-flashing-graphics style that the Judge mocks all the time. Still, an interesting little nexus of libertariana that’s sprung up in an unexpected place. I wonder what the chances are of him being able to get something similar actually on the air regularly.
I do not envy the prohibition apologist ahead of you, Radley. Give ‘em hell.
Remember when judging people on the content of their character (as opposed to the color of their skin) seemed like an idea society was ready to adopt? Welcome to the era where judging the content of a person’s bloodstream is an acceptable substitute.
Drug prohibition is akin to those droopy-drawers laws. A blatantly unconstitutional end-run around people’s civil rights to protect the status quo from blacks, browns, and college students. And people are persecuted accordingly – in that precise order.
Sweet, I’ll be there (I live in Ballston). Looking forward to meeting you Radley.
Any chance of video from the Arlington event for those of us lucky enough to not live anywhere near DC?
Mr. Balko, please bend the guy over and take him to brown town… in a figurative sense.
No amount of embarrassment your opponent endures tomorrow can come close to making up for the incredibly high amounts of misery caused by the drug war. Just think of all of the days served collectively in prison, on probation, on parole or total amount of money stolen via fines or asset forfeiture due to the drug war. That’s why when I debate it, I always make it seem like a government vs the people issue, not a liberal vs conservative or Dem vs GOP issue.
Don’t just blog about it
If you’re up for a direct experience I highly recommend the Peyote Way Church of God, in Arizona.
Less angular than LSD, more earthbound than mushrooms, peyote is a unique sacrament and the setting is beautiful.
Kick ass and spread sanity Radley!
Wish you would/could record it.
Bravo on being the program with Judge Napolitano! He Radley catch a documentury called “Sister from Saigon”. Might change your hatred of Capitalism!!!!!
Does anyone find it interesting that the ‘republicrats’ talk consistantly about ‘personal responsiblity’ ,and yet are always more than willing to deny that idea when it come to what is known as ‘prohibition’? Why is it that when it comes to certain ‘substances’, we plebs cannot exercize personal responsibility? ‘Prohibition’ seems to be a denial of the concept of ‘personal responsibility’.
Radley, I just saw your segment on FreedomWatch, and I was disappointed that they ran short on time. I really hope you can be back soon. I managed to catch a bit of their earlier conversation with Daniel Hannan, Lew Rockwell and Thomas Woods and I must say that I can no longer complain that I have nothing to watch on Wednesdays when Lost is off the air. ;-) Seriously, this will be part of my regular viewing and it’s because you posted about it on TheAgitator. I think if there were ten shows like that, airing positions focused on limited government and liberty, the political discourse in this country would be almost unrecognizable.
Anyway, get back on Napolitano’s show as soon as you can. He has a diverse array of regular libertarian guests, but no one (that I can see, just looking through the site) who is an expert on abuse of police power. You should become a regular.
