My Latest on Dr. West
Friday, May 15th, 2009This ought to prove once and for all that this guy is a complete fraud, and every case he has ever testified in demands a review.
I note this in the article, but I was really struck watching the video how convincing West actually sounds. You know before the video starts that the photo and the dental mold have nothing to do with one another. But if unless they might have forensics, scientific, or dental training, it isn’t at all difficult to see how he could have swayed judges and juries into buying his bullshit.

I give him a lot of credit. It only took him 20 minutes to demonstrate that the victim was indeed bitten by someone with teeth, possibly even a full set. I won’t make the obvious Mississippi joke here.
Poor, lil, ole, misunderstood, backwoods denist (West) doesn’t comprehend why “everybody’s always pickin on me”!
The rest of us understand why Mississippi is the laughing stock of the justice system and the United States!!
Nice story, Radley.
Just to nit-pick, “an appeals court threw out his conviction over an unrelated *legal technicality*” please don’t use this phrase.
Convictions are only ever upheld on technicalities, they are never overturned on technicalities, only on serious deficiencies that are inconsistent with our justice system AND potentially changed the outcome. Maybe “procedural errors” or “legal errors” would be a better phrase to use.
All this proves is that DNA evidence is crap and Rix must be the real killer.
Well said, Nick T. We have to stop buying into terminology designed to slant the meaning of the facts.
“Plourd’s video sting ought to move public officials in Mississippi and Louisiana to thoroughly, if belatedly, investigate just how much damage this dentist has inflicted on the judicial systems of those states.”
Ought to, but won’t. All that will happen is a ratcheting up of the CYA procedures.
Great article, disturbing video. I’m anxiously awaiting the patterico defense.
In our system,it’s supposed to be very hard to convict a person. As a result,we have lawmakers lowering the bar on every crime in the book.D.U.I and sex crimes are prime examples.Traffic enforcement has become a revenue stream, hence, primary seatbelt laws, hey we can we look for drugs while we’re here.Breath tests are like flipping a coin and C.I.’s lie repeatedly ,and innocent people go to jail.Even a minor ‘crime’ such as having two beers and driving home after work, being caught with a joint or sending nude photos of yourself to your friends now can ruin your life.In many cases it can get you tasered, beaten or shot and people like West make a good living lying with out any regret.
At first I laughed…then I cried.
Knowing this was the investigator’s teeth impressions the WHOLE time made it hilarious but then there’s absolutely NOTHING comical that many INNOCENT people may be in prison and DEATH ROW becaue of this.
PLEASE sign my petition to get the state moving on WEST and HAYNE:

And pass it on. I need your help…innocent people in prison need your help.
Radley, as always…you’re the MAN!
My God…help us all!
West hasn’t been hanged yet?
Watching that makes me think that West may actually have believed himself.
LOL Edwin…there ain’t enough rope in the world to wrap around that much STUPID!
#11 Michael,
I think he does believe his own BS and I could see how he was convincing himself.
I think he starts with the assumption that the suspicions of whoever sends him the evidence are correct. He seeks to spin a story that matches the teeth to the purported bite marks. He does not ask the question “Did these teeth cause the marks?” but rather he asks “How did these teeth cause these marks?”.
He uses the flexibility of the breast tissue and he flexes the photograph so that he can get them to match. He does no real test of the claimed match. You can see him doing this if you are on the look out for it.
I think he does this because he thinks of himself and those that he works for as the “good guys” and he assumes that the suspicions of the prosecutors who send him evidence are correct. He then seeks to back them up. His evil comes from an unwillingness to look critically at himself or those that he works for. He thinks that all you have to do to act morally is to choose the right side. The trouble is it is individual actions that are evil and you have to evaluate the morality of all your actions no mater what side you are on.
