Citizens United (Hillary: the Movie) v. Federal Election Commission
Monday, May 11th, 2009Cato has put out a good short film laying out what’s at stake in the case.
It’s unfortunate such an obvious restriction on political speech was able to get this far.

The Clash was right: you have the right to free speech as long as you’re not dumb enough to actually try it.
Here’s something I don’t understand: Hillary The Movie was on pay-per-view, so only people who paid could’ve seen it. Presumably, people who were willing to pay were either those who didn’t like Hillary already or those who were looking for additional information in order to make an educated decision at the polls. What the FEC did thus was to prevent voters from accessing information that could’ve helped them to make a better decision. Am I too naive if I didn’t suspect the FEC of actively dumbing down the electorate?
An equal fear is that they are going to try to classify dissenting political speech as hate speech towards the government. I think that is as much a worry as the campaign finance laws.
Rush Limbaugh was equated to a terrorist by Wonda Sykes for not supporting Obama. That was not a joke, but foreshadowing. Then they’ll lock up Michael Moore in the cell next to him.
