Big shame Allison lost last night. I could've seen either Kris or Danny go home after their performances... I was fully expecting it to be her and Adam in the final 2.

That destroys any suspense for the last 2 episodes, since neither of the other guys has any chance. Oh well.

Word.

Allison was great. I don't know why they're so down on her, but she represents the young gothic-lolita, west coast set that is actually creative and independent.

Kris, kind of a lame Beatles song actually, but was good. The only thing is that there are a thousand cute guitar-playing guys out there just like him.

Adam -- I don't like him precisely because he's a poseur. Yeah, he's got pipes, but he's fake. While Robert Plant would have been fucking up hotel rooms, he'd be practicing his poses in the mirror and doing his nails. There's nothing rock n roll about his personality at all.

Danny - How could they not bash him to bits. it was awful!

IMHO, Allison has the most potential as a marketable act because she's young, fashionable, cool, and independent....at least, that's the impression I get from the hour a week I watch the show!

Right on this week, Radley.

Adam sang and danced to Whole Lotta Love like he was starring in the stage adaptation of the Led Zeppelin story, complete with the faux snarls, over-anunciation and goofy glam rock getup. His and Allison's "duet" on Slow Ride was really just taking turns screaming the lines. And yet the judges acted as though he had just created rock and roll. It's nuts, and it erodes their credibility.

Then Kris does a nuanced, nice cover of Come Together (where he plays a very competent guitar) and they shit all over it. To my eye, Kris was feeling that song and really in the moment. That's what playing rock and roll is supposed to be about. They are not performances.

I think the judges must get production notes prior to the show that guide their critiques; e.g. "the rockers are Adam and Allison, so look to praise their performances and highlight their duet; Danny and Kris are 'outside their comfort zone' so note the poor fit." Because they all hit on the same thing and it was well different than what the performances sounded like.

Ugh..

When Robert Plant used to sing <i>Whole Lotta Love</i>, he would bend the audience over the kitchen table and give 'em the proper rogerin' they so desired...

Lambert singing <i>Whole Lotta Love</i> was pretty much an incompetent fumbling of the audience's bra strap in the back seat of Daddy's station wagon...

It was painful to hear some of my favorite songs so butchered.

They should stick to the soulless pop trash.

Judges want Chris to go home. That was probably my favorite remake of that song ever. Nicely done. Best of the night.

About a month ago I was thinking Adam could do Robert Plant...if Adam stopped with the goofy morning crapper face and cat-with-a-crushed-tail screech. But the tweeners like him. You can't forget that today's kids aren't as hip and cool as those of us that listened to Led in the day.

Allison did good but not awesome. Second best of the night.

Danny crashed and burned. The judges went out of their way to say how much they love him. Bullshit. Chris deserved more of the love last night. Danny sounds like Michael Bolton without the soul (yes, I know Bolton has no soul).

Danny and Chris duet sucked with Danny sucking the most. It was a trainwreck when Danny sang.

This is the first time Radley, and I were in agreement on their performances.

Once again they brought up the Broadway connection for Adam, it has seemed obvious to me from day one. I saw last night that Adam was already dressed for "Butt Pirates of Penzance." Maybe that's what you don't like Claude. Can he actually sing, or is screaming his talent? He hacked the greatest rock group of all time very shameful.

Alison as I said last week may be the sleeper that has awakened. I think she is going to push a good selling disc. Janis was not unhappy with the song.

Chris was much better then they gave him credit for, he did the Beatles well.

Danny really missed the mark last night. Never should have attempted Steven Tyler. If he had tried maybe "The Guess Who, No sugar Tonight" he may have pulled that off. Maybe Three Dog Night, Joy to the World."

Running order:
Allison
Chris
Adam
Danny

Didn't like a single performance, duets included. I thought the effusive, over the top praise of what I thought was a mediocre Lambert was cartoonish as well (e.g., "You're a rock god!"). Give me a break. Oh, and think about Kara's critique of Gokey's "Dream On": "I picture you with earlier Aerosmith, like 'Cryin' or Crazy."

You're completely wrong about Adam. <a href="http://myweeklycrime.blogspot.com/2009/05/idol-top-four.html" rel="nofollow">I thought</a> <i>Whole Lotta Love</i> was his best performance to date, hands down--no Broadway gimmickery or cramming impertinent wailing into a weak song. But then, I think classic rock (including pre-glam metal) is the best genre of music in human history, so I really enjoyed Tuesday's performances more than previous weeks. (<a href="http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/update-bitch-pleeze/1073101/" rel="nofollow">Disco?</a>)

I hate that Rock week was so late this year. One of my favorite things about Idol is the person whom you'd never expect to do well on rock week, except you know they are really talented, who just knocks it out of the park. Melinda Doolittle comes to mind.

This year, there's no gospel singer, country singer or anyone else left whom I would expect to do less than just fine. I would have been interested to see what Megan Joy or Lil Rounds or someone else really good but with a seemingly limited range could have done.

Bah, Allen's voice is dry, lacks richness, and he tends to go flat when he leaves his comfort zone. The only thing I see going for him is that he's cute enough to get the Tiger Beat vote.
