Timothy Cole’s Name Finally Cleared

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Cole was wrongly convicted of rape more than 20 years ago.

Though a repeat rapist confessed to the crime in 1995, prosecutors refused to reopen Cole’s case. He died in 1999, his family says due to his inability to get proper treatment for his asthma while he was incarcerated.

Cole was formally vindicated yesterday, 10 years after his death.

Our system is broken. Should I not be surprised that these were black men, in all of the cases today. I don’t doubt low financial status might also lead to this sort of conviction in whites, too. But, it looks like we have used our prisons, to continue fighting a race war.

How sad that this guy died in prison, while serving time for someone else’s crime. This should never happen! So much for eyewitness testimony!

I certainly hope it’s just bad quoting on the part of the article and the family doesn’t actually believe that a pronouncement of “oops, our bad” for executing an man the prosecutor had good reason to think innocent remotely resembles justice.

prisons use a private, hmo style health care system that routinely denies care to prisoners. google ‘cms prison death’ and check out how many hits just that one company gets!

this is tragic- my condolensces to the family.

Sen. Stevens case=prosecutorial misconduct and what of those unfortunate prisoners in this thread? The system is broken indeed. Support Sen. Webb (VA) and prison reform. When I contact my legislators about reform of any kind I never hear from them or get the same letter we all do thanking us and they will keep my thoughts in mind. BS!

My heartfelt condolences go out to Timothy Cole’s family for his loss; as well as my admiration for his mother, as she kept her promise that one day she would make sure this injustice was corrected.

May God’s perpetual light shine upon his soul as he rests in God’s eternal peace.

I wish his family well in their discussion with Governor Perry concerning legislation related to aiding the wrongly convicted, and I hope they will be successful in having their son and brother officially pardoned.

For all that this family has endured and for their concern in wanting to help others, may God bless them.

What everyone else said. Nice to see a group of people aware of just how often innocent people are put in prison…sometimes for life.

I wish the state pursued justice as hard as it pursues expansion.

Wrongful imprisonment, wrongful death, ten years of torture for a crime he didn’t commit… I can’t believe the level of IMMORAL and SADISTIC behaviour on behalf of the police and prosecutor! THESE people should be in PRISON!

Note to those responsible: The ONLY honorable thing you can do is to KILL YOURSELVES! You are despicable scum, not worthy of the badge of “human being”!

Puts a different perspective on the phrase, ‘Better late than never’.

The only word that comes to mind is right now is ‘damn’!
