Need Your Help

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Because the story on Hayne and West I posted today doesn’t easily fit into a soundbite, it may be a bit of a challenge getting people to commit the time to read it.

I don’t usually ask this, but if you think promoting the story is worth some of your time, please vote it up at Digg and Reddit, send it to a few people (particularly any bloggers or journalists you know), and post it at whatever relevant bulletin boards and discussion groups you might frequent.

Does your blogging host offer a Facebook link? I done Dugg it.

I’ll be posting about it later today when I get some time. Stunning piece really, thank you for bringing this story out to the public Radley. It definitely needs all the attention it can get!

But it’s not stunning that it happened, because I think it happens more often than we know, but because this kind of activity was actually caught on film and brought to the light of day.

After all, it’s just too tempting for prosecutors not to encourage or participate in this kind of misconduct since there is little risk of accountability and plenty of incentive to boost conviction rates.

Blogged it and sent it a link, but also excerpted it more heavily than we would normally, because the images will disturb many readers.

Of course, the story is far more disturbing than the images.

Done and done, and done again. I haven’t seen anything more deserving of a blogstorm in… well… ever. Excellent job, Radley. While it sometimes may feel like you’re pounding your head against a brick wall, my hope that the wall might one day crumble remains bright.

Working on it. Darn, wish I knew some journalists!

    Excellent job, Radley.

  6. #6 |  Brian |

Great work Radley. I am asking around to see if others can post it as well.

  8. #8 |  Marta Rose |

For what it’s worth, it’s on my status update on Fb and on my blog (as well as my own Radley Balko expose!)

Well done, Radley. Hope this gets the buzz it deserves.

This really needs to be heard.

Anyone send to Drudge? I know some folks who read that, and they need a little more exposure.

  11. #11 |  Mister DNA |

Maybe Nancy Grace will pick up this story.

I’m sorry, that was uncalled for.

  12. #12 |  Steve Verdon |

Put up a post linking to it at Outside the Beltway. Hope that helps.

  13. #13 |  Paul |

Blogged it, put it on my facebook page, and sent messages via twitter to The Baltimore Sun and WMAR TV.

I tied it to the current death penalty debate with the local news folks, hoping they may cover it from that angle.

  14. #14 |  David |

“Medical examiner faked evidence to put a man in jail for life” isn’t a sound bite?

  15. #15 |  Steve Verdon |

Death row David, death row. Rather important difference.

  16. #16 |  Cynical In CA |

Sorry, OT. Should I tell this guy that he’s lucky the police only lost his dog and didn’t shoot it?

  17. #17 |  David |

    Steve: Indeed. Sorry about that.

Makes for an even better soundbite, though.

  18. #18 |  Robert S. Porter |

Created Digg and Reddit accounts just to do this.

  19. #19 |  Lorraine Sumrall |

I sent this to the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure, two Mississippi reporters at two separate newspapers and the president of NAME in California.

Dude, I have re-posted this all over the net and made phone calls too.

Everyone’s reaction is the same, total disgust and anger.

  24. #24 |  Marta Rose |

any chance sullivan will pick it up? tnc? they both seem to admire your work.

  25. #25 |  Mike T |

Done and done. I’m about to add a link to it on my blog to help it get some additional authority the next time Google calculates it. Everyone who reads this and has a blog should do the same.

  26. #26 |  Windypundit |

    A soundbyte you say?

Forensic experts working for the state of Lousiana mutiliated a child’s corpse in order to frame a man for murder.

Facebooked it. Dugg it. Blogged it.

  27. #27 |  Lorraine Sumrall |

Also sent your article to news reporters at three TV stations, two in Louisiana and one in Mississippi and to the DA’s office in Hinds County, Mississippi.

  28. #28 |  Snowden |

    Dugg’d, Blugg’d and Facebugg’d.

It’s also up now on the Bureaucrash Social site.

  29. #29 |  Danimal |

Ditto — keep it up, folks, and let’s get this on the front page of DIGG and Reddit.

  30. #30 |  Mike T |

The only moral decision that a court could make regarding this man is sentence him to execution for his work to convict innocent men of capital murder.

  31. #31 |  Brandon Bowers |

Created an account to submit it to Fark, but apparently someone else already tried it. Created a digg and reddit account too, and tried submitting it to Any other suggestions?

  32. #32 |  Fritz |

Done – FB, Reddit & Digg.

  33. #33 |  Danimal |

Don’t forget twitter, too — only saw a few references doing a twitter search

  34. #34 |  Qbryzan |

Created a Reddit account just for this. Also, dugg, and emailed to everyone who might read it.

I wish I could help, but I’m having difficulty concentrating on anything but my own pain, my need for justice in my own life. I know it’s egocentric. Intellectually, I notice what bigger problems there are than mine. But I’m weak. My brain is trapped in a loop.

  36. #36 |  Matt |

I quoted a bit to introduce the link at my local newspaper’s forums:

  37. #37 |  Bronwyn |

I livejournal’d it and am about to FB it. I’ll even link to it on the Etc. forum on etsy. Lots of parents on etsy… lots of outrage.

  38. #38 |  Lorraine Sumrall |

Sent it to the Innocence Project Blog via twitter and got a response they would run it today.

  39. #39 |  CC |

Blogged it, digged (dug?) it, sent it to two professors who teach forensics students at the undergrad level with a suggestion that it be a lesson in what not to do.

I tried reddit, but I don’t get it.

  40. #40 |  CC |

Oh, and I just found this:

  41. #41 |  ShelbyC |

CC, don’t know if you know this, but the abc article is a year old.

  42. #42 |  Sky |

I’ve sent it to every news source I know of in MS. Radley and dared them to run it!

  43. #43 |  CC |

    Yep, I’m a moron.

  44. #44 |  ShelbyC |

Eh. fooled me for a while. Hell of a concidence.
