www.kcdx.com A real radio station in Arizona.

No commercials. No Jocks. No talk at all except station ID and a little prerecorded patter.

Just great rock from the late 60's to the mid 80's, 24 hours a day.

There is a reason to listen to the radio again.

The Beatles, except for Let it Be, released all of their original albums in the 1960's (and Let it Be was begun in January of 1969). I really don't think any more argument than that is necessary.

The only decade in the running after that is the 80's, and only because The Joshua Tree is such a great album it can carry 10 years.

I like the power pop of the late 70s through the 80s- everything from Cheap Trick to Matthew Sweet... I also thought the 80s and 90s alt country movement was pretty spectacular... It seems like there's a resurgence of great songwriting now- Paul Weller, Hiatt, Perry Keyes... I think I like some of all eras, except for fucking Pink Floyd and Yes. Fuck that prog rock stuff... and disco. and Garth Brooks style country. and those 'ride a horse' clowns. like Clubmedsux, 'I’ll take the best of ANY decade over that crap, easy.'

What would be interesting would be a poll of reader's ages to see if it corresponds with these results. I voted 90s because that's what I came of age listening to - Nirvana, Green Day, NIN, and the grunge scene.

#13 - NIN, Rage, Tool, Alice -- those are all from the 90s man!

First of all, what coyote said.

Second of all, I think it's funny that many are heralding the '70s for bands that actually sucked in the seventies (or at the very least put out their best stuff in '68-'69). Floyd, Zeppelin, the Stones, they all but out their best stuff before 1970. In the '70s they got old and bloated and turned into arena rock crap. Meanwhile the bands that WERE putting out great music in the '70s were doing so in '78-'79 and are generally associated with the '80s (see MassHole's comment above, and throw in acts like Elvis Costello and Talking Heads).

Anyway, I think it's kind of a fool's errand because every decade had amazing music, and generally that amazing music was overshadowed by the crap we commonly associate with the decade. The best-selling artist in the '90s wasn't Nirvana or Radiohead but Whitney Houston. I'll take the best of ANY decade over that crap, easy.

Rolling Stone's list of the greatest 500 albums of all time has a disproportionate number of entries from the 1970s. Which is also how I vote, though like some others I would shift the ten year period a little earlier (1967-1976?) if I could choose any old timespan.
And I went to high school in the 1980s. But that era's music skews more to 'enjoyable' rather than 'great'.
