Five-Star Fridays

Friday, January 16th, 2009

I just started getting into the TV show House about a month ago, and have been obsessively going through the first four seasons since. So this week’s song is the show’s trippy theme song, Massive Attack’s “Teardrop.”

In a later season (I believe Four), there’s an acoustic guitar version of “Teardrop” played during the episode. At least, I think it was acoustic guitar. My memory is a bit rusty.

I too recently became aware of House. I have so far watched the first three episodes of season one, which I downloaded. Does it seem to you that every show is the same?

The episodes are indeed somewhat formulaic. The show is mainly entertaining because of the character of House.

You’re definitely right about the character House.

Later episodes have almost game theory-esque interpersonal subplots, where seemingly benign statements or actions are over-examined and turn out to have great meaning.

    Edwin,
I know Elbow did a really good cover of “Teardrop”

That acoustic version of “Teardrop” is by Jose Gonzalez, off the record “In Our Nature.” It’s pretty neat.

House is the best character on T.V. right now, without question. The whole show revolves around his character flaws/genius, and the medical plots are just filler.

Not to mention Hugh Laurie is a renaissance man. Acts, writes, plays several instruments, comedy, drama, etc.

Still one of my favorites. This is the newer version of it.

I agree with John. You watch House for his snark and stay for the reactions. :)

And Massive Attack is one of the best bands out there. Love their work.

I’ve just started watching the show also, mostly the reruns on USA network. It is formulaic, but it works. Perhaps not a show that you watch for years and years, maybe more that you watch a whole lot at a time (DVDs are perfect for this) and then move on, sated.

I envy some of you guys. I’ve been watching since the beginning and can only wish that I was seeing it for the first time.

    Ah, the beauty of syndication.

Upstairs TV – DVR + need a good show to watch before falling asleep = House (on USA network)

It’s entertaining but with a father and sister who work in the medical industry, I can’t help but thinking every episode “this guy wouldn’t last a week in the real world”.

I highly recommend Massive Attack’s album Collected. It’s a two disc greatest hits collection.

If you’re getting into House, you might also enjoy the MAD TV spoof. :D

My family has been watching it almost since the beginning. We’ve missed a lot of season 3 and 4, but getting the DVD’s defiantly helps. I’ve never herd the whole theme song before. Have to tip my hat to you Radley for putting it up.

Watched House since day one. The medicine is laughable but the title character is a hoot. Also nicely developed are characters Cuddy & Wilson.
