Party at the Hoover Building
Monday, January 5th, 2009Bruce Mirken sends this summary of items seized by various DOJ agencies in 2008 that have been “placed into official use.”
The FBI apparently found official uses for $120,000 in seized jewelry and $134 in pornography.
Weirder, the U.S. Postal Service apparently found an “official use” for one dollar’s worth of pornography.

Postal service needed to upgrade their child porn.
Where else but in the FBI can you blurt out “Yo! I’ll take the guns and the porno!” and actually get them.
Sweet. Are they taking applications?
Oh, and hook me up with one of those boats, too. I’ll need a safe place to shoot my guns and look at my porno.
do they determine the porn’s value after they watch it?
I can see how the FBI might reasonably need bling for undercover agents.
Weirder still, is the 4 thousand dollar value of the 1 “animal” put into use by the Fish and Wildlife Service. What did they confiscate, a dolphin?
@scott clark
I figured $1 for an issue of JUGS with most the pages stuck together.
What is included under other? Both the ATF and the DEA have things that are worth $2,500 under “other.” Other items under “other” are worth even more, except for one under the USMS which is only worth $1. Also what “Furniture/Hshld Item” is worth 10 grand?
Wait… people PAY for porn?
After hearing about the FBI and the USPS, I’m kinda suspicious about what the Fish & Wildlife service is doing with that animal too.
#8 SD, well played, well played.
$134,000 of Jewelry and they still needed porn?
Man, those guys should find some better pick-up lines.
In the table where all this stuff is listed, it says the $134 in porno was a single item. How did they come up with this value?

I think you’re neglecting how much the value of porn has been deflated thanks to all the free stuff on the internet. $134 worth of porn in 2008 would probably go for $20,000 in 1988…
“Weirder, the U.S. Postal Service apparently found an “official use” for one dollar’s worth of pornography.”
Well, it’s just under a dollar to mail a large envelope first class to Canada or Mexico.
#9 DBN-
‘Wait… people PAY for porn?’
when you have access to the unlimited funds these agencies have, plus guns and accessories to pillage, if necessary- you don’t have to settle for the free stuff…
I like the Gambling Devices for the FBI: 1 item worth 2 dollars. So somebody took a scratch-off ticket.
I’m thinking the 1 $134 item of “pornography” is a sex toy someone grabbed for home use…
@ #8: I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that the $10,000.00 “household item” was either a safe of some kind or a large, high-end appliance.
How do you put a value on Pr0n? It’s free on the intertubes!!
Given how much the gov pumps up the price of seized drugs I have the sinking suspicion that they pump down the price of items that find “official use” for on they are taken. I am also thinking of the Vatican’s’ valuation of every art item it holds as one euro.
War profiteering. Plain and simple. Yet another incentive for more laws to put more people in prison so the government can take more of your shit. I believe racketeering is the legal term.
