FWIW, I presently live with and feed* two cats, one from a shelter and one who was a stray. Previously I have lived with and fed five cats, all of whom came from shelters and are no longer among the living. Alas, I am not enough of a dog lover to own one, but I enjoy the hell out of other people's dogs.

JD, it's a shame that yours is the last post in this thread. I would have been curious to read the reactions if you had been first and emotions had still been riding high.

Your post definitely warrants a response, but I do not feel up to the task.

If you happen to check back in here, I posted an idea on a more recent thread regarding "puppycide" in which I outlined a grass-roots movement or PAC to attempt to swing the pendulum more in favor of mercy to the animals and owners and away from carte blanche for the police. I wonder what your opinion of such an organization would be?

Is it possible that government cops (who are paid with stolen money) could still do their jobs to their satisfaction without killing dogs, even if they were forced to by a motivated citizenry?

If you guys are done working yourself in a lather, let’s cover a few things. First, one of the common threads in almost all the entries is that the PD made a mistake. In almost all of the entries on this article there are mistakes in them also so there is that whole glass house or black kettle thing. If you are going to rail against someone for screwing up a detail make sure you are right yourself because it makes you look stupid and kills your argument. If it truly is the owner on one of the entries and she wants to tell the truth she will tell you that her house was mislabeled, they were at the right numbers but neither address had the “A” or “B’ noted on the mailbox or house which is required to avoid incidences like this. One the first news casts that was done on the story they mentioned that the first thing the owner did was go out that next morning and add the correct lettering on her box. Secondly, they were not serving a “no-knock” warrant at the house or garage. They were there to talk to someone and were approaching the house in an attempt to talk to them when the dog came out. Then there is the person who suggested that they shoot in the air to scare the dog away or spray or taze the dog. Not sure if you ever heard of this or not but “what goes up must come down”. How would you like to take a bullet to the top of the head or through your windshield as you are driving in the HOV at 70 MPH with your whole family in the car with you? Would you rather take the chance that the bullet would come down and kill someone who did nothing wrong instead of dealing with the problem directly? Spraying OC on a dog very rarely works; it is so ineffective that it is not even tried. A Tazer does work but not all Officers have it and it is a lot harder to deploy. If the dog is coming at you it would not work, the dog would have to be standing sideways to you for you to be able to use it.

There is a law that dogs are to be on a leash or be trained well enough on commands or something like that. This dog was neither. To make a blanket statement that all GCPD Officers are out to kill dogs and kick in wrong doors is ludicrous and does this theme a disservice. Anyone that reads half way through this blog is going to think you all are a bunch of fanatics and dismiss the whole lot. Find out the facts, read the law and be reasonable. Cut the hands off the Officers who shoot animals?!? The other thing you can do is if you think you can do their job better, go apply. They are always hiring. Get in there and go to calls where you gut tells you to run the other way. Be the first on the scene of a fight involving 50 or more people with shots having been fired. Go to the call where someone has let there dog out and he has attacked some school kids waiting on the school bus or the little old lady down the street who was mowing her lawn. And when you find that dog then you can set the example for the rest of them to follow on their calls. And I know since all of you “posters” are such animal lovers that you have at least 5 dogs or cats that you personally rescued from the shelter. Right? If you do then thank you! If you don’t then shame on you and shut the hell up.

It's really a shame. This is not the first time Gwinnett CO PD has screwed up. Everyone's absolutely right, this could've been anyone of our houses. But it didn't. It happened to that poor family. There's no replacement for a family pet. I would like to know what the Police are doing to take care of this family's loss.

I am the owner of the dog that got shot. My dog was not a mean dog. He would have never charged at anyone. I was in my kitchen when the incident happened, my dog did not bark or grawl. All that was herd was three gun shots. Yes three gun shots. Two of which put two bullet holes into my house. I dont see why firing three shots at my dog was proper prdocedure. They could of maced, or tasered, or shot up in the air to startle the dog or bring awarness to me that they were there and needing assitance. They took away a family member in our house. he wasnt just a dog, he was our family. my kids are heart broken, and I feel like i lost one of my kids. I would hope that all dog owners will unite and help me defend Kalu's legacy so this never happens again.

I grew up in Gwinnett but moved out to Hall because of the Gwinnett Police. A couple of years ago they raided my parents house looking for some strange person that we had never heard of. It was around 10pm and i was just getting off work. I seen all the police all over the place so I parked my car, went in thinking something had happened to my parents. As soon as I walked though the door I was slammed to the ground with a knee in the back of my neck. They busted up my dads face and pepper sprayed our golden retriever puppy why he was next to the door a sleep. They never found that person or anything in the house but I went to jail that night because I told the a$$hole in charge that they had no right pepper spraying a 12 week old puppy for no reason. The 2 officers that put me in the car and took me to jail to me that they didnt know why I was going to jail because I didnt do wrong. They then said the one in charge sent me to jail because of his ego and he couldnt find the person he was looking for. I will never live or shop in Gwinnett again and I really try my hardest to notgo thought there either. Gwinnett Police need to be trained better and learn to controle their anger problems.

I've lived in Gwinnett County for many years. The thing with GCPD, is that some of the officers are really decent human beings and out to help the citizens, and then some are absolute monsters, bullies with badges!

I remember when I was on leave from the Army, I got pulled over for speeding in a school zone (I didn't know it was a school zone, long story...) A crowd of folks gathered around to yell at me, basically saying "kill the child-endangering monster!" I spoke up, and told the crowd, " I'm sorry, I didn't know, etc." This one nutcase GCPD cop decided I shouldn't be talking, and so he would shut me up and give them what they wanted - he slammed me to the ground, and stomped my head against the pavement. Knocked out my front tooth, and blackened my eye. The crowd gasped and went silent. I was thinking "yeah...now THAT will teach me, right?" And no, I didn't do anything further. Well, except photgraph the injuries and take them to court. Case dismissed!

These kind of things are common down here. Republicans and other assorted rednecks run the show, and people want !BLOOD! for just about everything, no matter how minor the infraction.
I remember when I was on leave from the Army, I got pulled over for speeding in a school zone (I didn’t know it was a school zone, long story…) A crowd of folks gathered around to yell at me, basically saying “kill the child-endangering monster!” I spoke up, and told the crowd, ” I’m sorry, I didn’t know, etc.” This one nutcase GCPD cop decided I shouldn’t be talking, and so he would shut me up and give them what they wanted – he slammed me to the ground, and stomped my head against the pavement. Knocked out my front tooth, and blackened my eye. The crowd gasped and went silent. I was thinking “yeah…now THAT will teach me, right?” And no, I didn’t do anything further. Well, except photgraph the injuries and take them to court. Case dismissed!

These kind of things are common down here. Republicans and other assorted rednecks run the show, and people want !BLOOD! for just about everything, no matter how minor the infraction. In most of their eyes, the police are too easy on folks. Very frustrating and totally unacceptable, but common nonetheless.

I think that is the point exactly. If it is true in the first scenario, then it must be true in the second.

As a new resident of Lawrenceville, I'm less than impressed with the GCPD so far; a wrong-door no-knock raid and a puppycide both within in one week.

I'm also dumbfounded by the way their spokeshole stated that the dog should have been restrained. Why was the officer skulking around the garage? What is the officer's name? Why was lethal force used?

And what is the name of "Inspector Clouseau" who botched the no-knock last week? (GCPD has refused on three occasions thus far to respond to my requests for his name.)

I guess this presents another opportunity to learn more about my new local government by finding out which officials to annoy.

This is the same county that nationalized trash pickup and instituted a $500 fine if you didn't recycle only to have it thrown out by a judge.

This is the same police department that closed off an entire neighborhood to hold a stand off with an empty house.

It should be noted that 100% of the county commissioners filed to run with the letter "R" after their named.

As you can imagine, I'm looking forward to the housing market to recover.

Let me get this straight.

An officer is attempting to find a 'material witness' in a case.

I assume the guy's not under arrest, he's just being delivered a subpoena? Or perhaps they just wanted to talk to him?

Then WHY THE HELL were the cops breaking into the freakin' garage?

What was wrong with the front door? With the conveniently located door bell?
