The man is exactly right–Bush did an excellent job at the task he was assigned. For his real job wasn’t to administer the nation–it was to be the ceremonial talking head (the face of propaganda) to keep the press and everyone else distracted. This task did not require he be eloquent like a Reagan–only that he push the official line while someone else (Cheney and possibly others) did the real dirty work behind the scenes. If he flubbed his lines it just gave the hyenas something else to write about.

The Obama administration appears to be different–this man seems to want to “rule”. His owners (i.e. the ones who bought and paid for him to get him elected….) may let him for awhile. If he doesn’t follow their wishes he will gain another credential in common with JFK. And like JFK, there will be so many people with motive that we will spend the next 50 years debating who pulled the trigger–that is if the ensuing race riots don’t overshadow the whole thing.

I was discussing this with a friend yesterday. My comment was that an objective person cannot take powerline seriously. This is nothing but propaganda for the true believers. Hindraker graduated Darthmouth and Harvard Law. He’s a well trained lawyer. I don’t think Hinderaker really believes this stuff about Bush. I think he writes it because it’s “good for the cause” and the rubes eat it up.

I am wondering when Hindraker starts airbrushing undesirable people out of pictures with Bush?

By the time Hindraker is done remaking Bush’s image he will have the oratory, sorry, talking skills of Lincoln and FDR combined, the wit of Churchill, and the courage of Eisenhower. I will be sorry that I missed that part of history, but seeing as it only happened in someone’s head, well, I can only be so sorry. Hell, I doubt Bush thinks as much of himself as Hindraker thinks of Bush.

“I suppose there have been political figures more overrated than Barack Obama, but it’s hard to think of one offhand.”

I’m with nobahdi – please tell me this article and all these comments lauding Bush’s speaking abilities and his “message discipline” is satire.

I don’t even know that gaffes or his lies were his biggest problem. I can’t think of any president in my lifetime that has been worse at even trying to communicate his policies. The administration seems happier to tell us to ignore the man behind the curtain and trust that all is well.

I don’t know how his number of press conferences and primetime speeches compare to his predecessors, but for the number of major incidents and policy changes it has not been nearly enough.

I have to agree with the Powerline paragraph here (although not their overall point about Obama’s missile conversation)…Bush is on point and has message discipline, as awful as his messages tend to be. Obama is much more likely to go on intellectual field trips during debates and say random things.

I don’t have the “I Blame everything on Chimpy McBushHitler” syndrome like many do, but of all things to defend Bush on … his speaking? Really??? I think the media love affair with Obama has covered up many gaffes (and they will continue that through his 4-8 years in charge). But I can’t see how anyone can really try to argue how great of a speaker Bush is/was. The OBGYN comment alone is priceless.
