No, gay marriage definitely. Two gay men marrying makes about as much sense as marrying Green Lantern.

BTW, on a semi-serious note, it’s fun to cast this story as an eccentricity of another culture, but it’s not like this is commonplace there. And, does anyone seriously believe that a similar petition in the U.S. would fare any worse? I think he’d get plenty of signatures here, or in plenty of other places.

This is clearly separate from gay marriage in that gay marriage is between two consenting people. Unless you are the artist of the two dimensional being you wish to marry it isn’t consenting and if you are the artist you have more problems than you know.

William Gibson touched on something similar to this in his novel “Idoru” – a mega-popstar plans on marrying a synthetic, virtual personality who is also a pop idol (“Idoru” in Japanese parlance). Much chaos and hidden agendas collide.
